Lord have mercy on Liam Caffrey. He was one of the finest footballers of the 1960s and 1970s ever to grace the game. I had the privilege of witnessing his outstanding performances with St Muredach’s College, Enniscrone/Kilglass, Sligo, UCD and Connacht.

In addition to his footballing ability, he excelled at handball and was known to all who met him as a true gentleman.

May his gentle soul rest in peace. My sincere sympathies to his family, relatives and many friends at this sad time.

So sorry to hear of Liam's passing. He was a lovely person to have known. He made a great contribution to under age football in Tuam. Had the great experience of seeing him play for Sligo in Croke Park in the sixties. Deepest sympathy to the family. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the Caffrey family on the passing of Liam. I worked with Liam in Kildare before he joined the ACC in Naas. We have always remained close friends after he moved to Wexford & eventually to Tuam as regional manager of ACC. Liam was an absolute gentleman & was always a pleasure to meet up with or have a pleasant chat. Unfortunately I am unable to attend his funeral.

I’m very sorry to hear of Liam’s passing. He was a lovely gentleman and invited me in to see what was our old house where we and our parents Dr Daniel and Carmel Maher had lived for nearly 20 years. Liam showed me around on what was a very nostalgic tour of our old home. He was a kind hearted, warm, generous man who was such a pleasure to meet. He proudly showed off his family pictures to me which was reminiscent of our lives as a family in “Prague” House. May Liam rest in peace.
