Our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of Liam's family.
We was such a kind and gentle soul who always had time for a chat. Even in the last few weeks and months he had a positive outlook, and was an inspiration to the end.
He was a kind boss in St James and always had time to give to staff.
I am deeply sorry to read that Liam passed away a few days ago. My sincere condolences to Deborah and her family.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
I am very sorry to hear of Liam's passing. He gave me my first job in St James's and I had the privilege of working with him for a number of years. I'd often come in to work to find his head buried in an analyser and it was always a relief to see this because you knew he could almost always fix it. He really was a wizard with machines. He had a very gentle way about him and such a kind heart and I loved to hear about his mountaineering adventures. He used to tell me how he'd love a dog when he retired and I'm glad to hear he found his best friend. RIP Liam.
Deepest sympathy to Debbie Aoife and all family and friends of Liam.we were very saddened to hear the news of his passing. May he rest in eternal peace.
On behalf of my family and myself I wish to offer our deepest sympathies to Debbie and Aoife and extended family on the loss of Liam.
Liam Field gave me my job in 1992 in St James's, initially monthly locums. From this start and through his mentoring and support he has given me my career and the life I have, that all came from that. He was an absolute gentleman and the best of bosses and a friend. He was a dedicated and superlative medical scientist and the worldclass laboratory we have today is a result of his efforts when this opened in 1981. He will live forever in our memories.
Mark Neville.
I first knew Liam about two years ago and he was walking his dog George. He was a very down to earth person, very pleasant and always stopped for a chat. He heard about me performing with Gerry & The Plonkers back in January 2024 and he had really nice things to say about it. My sincere condolences to the family.
So sorry to hear of Liam's passing. It was a privilege to work with him in Sir Patrick Dunns and St. James

My sympathies to Aoife, Debbie and extended Field family. I first met Liam in the old Paddy Duns Biochemistry Lab in the 1980s before the department's move to St James's Hospital. He was always approachable and helpful and had a mischievous sense of humour. His technical skills were legendary and he would often be seen successfully tackling misbehaving analysers. He organised many hill walks for the staff and even got a few involved in spelunking. May he rest in peace.
Condolences to the Field family on the passing of Liam rip.

Liam was a true gentleman who gave me my first job in St James’s, where I spent many happy years with great memories. He was a wonderful boss and mentor, a kind and calming presence, and someone you could always turn to—for advice, a chat, or a solution. Liam could fix anything, and his technical skill, wisdom, and steady leadership left a lasting impact on all who worked with him.

He leaves behind an indelible legacy in the laboratory and in the lives of those he supported. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Aoife, Debbie, family and all Liams friends on this very sad news. Liam was a fantastic boss to work for and I learnt many a trick on how to fix an analyser but not only that was a lovely person to have a chat with whether is was sitting in his office or on call. He was always interested to hear your stories even up to a few weeks ago when I had the privilege of visiting him he wanted to know how the lab looked and asked for pictures. Liam, you will be missed by all of us and thank you for all you did in Biochemistry.

Sincere sympathies to Tom & all of Liams family and friends on their sad loss.May he rest in peace.
Deep sympathy to Aoife, Tom, Debbie and all of Liam’s family at this sad time of loss. I first met Liam on St. Patrick’s weekend in 1979, when a group of us from the laboratory in the Mater Hospital joined a group from Sir Patrick Dun’s on a potholing weekend in the Burren which was expertly led by Liam. A few years later, I came to know him as a kind, thoughtful and friendly colleague for over 30 years in the Biochemistry Dept. in St. James’s. More recently, it was nice to meet him from time to time at our retirees’ lunches. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

So very sad to hear of Liam's illness and passing. I worked with Liam many years ago. There were great times, Liam generously organised and lead hill walks every second Sunday which were brilliant. He bravely led an overnight lab walk over the Wicklow Way. He could fix any mechanical fault in any machine! And a memory that keeps springing to mind today is Liam enthusiastically playing air guitar at a lab Christmas party somewhere on the quays. Liam was quiet spoken with a gentle personality and a wry sense of humour. Sincere condolences to Deborah, Aoife, Tom Janet and all relatives and friends. Ann and Willie.
