Ah Liam,
Farewell to a dear and beloved friend. What fun, what laughs, what great discussions we had over the years, what hilarous memories of our extended families mingling (sometimes in libation!) - what precious times. We miss you sorely and will not forget you.

I had the privilege and the pleasure of knowing and working with Liam for several years in the TV Current Affairs Department of RTE. In that time, I was consistently impressed by his personal charm, his moral and intellectual integrity, and his professional judgement. I could always rely upon Liam to provide a shrewd, honest and - often - humorous assessment of every situation we found ourselves in. After I left RTE, I lost contact with Liam for some years, but I was delighted when he connected with me again in the last few months. From what he wrote, I could see that Liam was facing his illness with the same unflinching clarity and courage that I had come to expect of him. I know how much his family meant to Liam, and I hope that will provide some measure of consolation for those he loved in the days ahead.

So so sorry to hear of Liam’s passing. Our sincerest sympathy to Tove and all the Family. May he Rest In Peace.

Working with him on Questions and Answers over many years, we travelled to South Africa for the first free elections, and to New York for Bill Clinton’s election in 1992. More normally , we shared a tiny office the size of a broom cupboard, and had many laughs and frustrations there! I know you will all miss him greatly.

I have many happy memories of Liam down through the years from holidays in Dundalk in the 1950's ,canning Batchelor's peas in Huntington in the 1960's to cruising from Athlone to Enniskillen in the recent past
He was great company and story teller most of which were actually true. We had planned to meet for a few pints when his recent illness would be over, but,alas, that was not to be.
