It is with great sadness that I have just heard of the sudden passing of Liam. I always enjoyed his company while helping out in the garden and around the house, and Liam's knowledge was an inspiration.

We have known and travelled with Liam and Maureen for many years with the Irish Tree Society. Liam and Maureen were both officers on the committee for many years and were always very welcoming to members.

I am very sorry indeed to hear of Liams sudden passing. Please accept my condolences and those of the Irish Tree Society where Liam was a founding member and Honorary Treasurer for many years. His detailed learning about trees will always stay in my mind; he had an encyclopedic knowledge! Maureen was Honorary Secretary of the Society and they made a great team. On behalf of Etain, Donnacha and myself, we are so sorry to hear about the departure of this wonderful man. One of our dad Gerhardt's closest pals, a true adventurer and always so full of vitality. We always loved to hear the stories of their exploits when they were younger men starting off in their forestry careers. All through our own lives we greatly appreciated his and Maureen's loyal and kind friendship to our parents. We send our very deepest condolences to Maureen, Felicity, Isobel, Deirdre, Oisin and all the family. Liam - a legend. You will be sorely missed.

Liam and our late Dad PJ were friends for many years. They both worked for the Forestry dept. When Dad was sick Liam called to the house every week and they both sat at the table and discussed trees,wildlife, and studied maps of forestry plantations, they were both retired at this point. Such a good memory to have. Our sympathy to the O’Flanagan family. May Liam rest in peace.

Loved our conversations with Liam, they were allways interesting. He loved showing his Castlepollard, the lake and his cars etc., and giving a history which we enjoyed hearing.
We really liked our dinner party, about a week ago,in Sandymount with Liam and, the love of his life, Maureen, where we learned about the Pine Martin and the leaflets about the rising.
