Dear Lily,

We go back to just hours after my birth. You never let me forget that you were a teenager when I was born to your big sister Kathleen. You and your mother were the first on the scene as soon as you heard the news. You told me how you and Nan ‘ran all the way’ from Market Street over to the Mountain Road excited to see the new mother and her baby daughter. So, you and I must have bonded then.

We have many shared memories over our lifetime, and I feel privileged that we were always a close and loving family. I am also thankful that Drew and Barry along with Helen and Shelley honoured your wishes to get you home to Ireland to spend your final few years.

In St. Martha’s care home, you were surrounded by the comfort of soft and gentle Irish voices.

I know we, your family are saddened to the heart to say goodbye, but you are at peace now and you’re sure to be greeted in your heavenly home by so many loved ones. There will be your beloved Andy, your Mam and Dad, and the great legion of the Griffin family.
