Luke Byrne

I taught Luke Maths in secondary school for his junior cert (that he was lucky enough didn't go ahead!!) and to put it nicely the class was... busy..!! Luke was always at hand with a joke to lighten the mood though. He really made that class so enjoyable for all of us, cracking jokes with our class SNA Mary. Mary would come into the room and Luke would ask her to the debs, ask her to be his girlfriend, all this sort of craic. He had us all in hysterics. He was such a brilliant ball of energy and after his year in the curragh, Mary came to me one day and said "Luke's up at reception!!! He must be coming back!", we both legged it up to see him sat there with his Mam. His Mam Martina couldn't get over the two of us all delighted to see him and hoping he'd be back in school. That's the kind of person Luke was, you'd just be so happy to see him, knowing he'd make your day with his one liners. I am so deeply sorry to all his family for their tragic loss. I attended Luke's funeral and it was amazing to see how many people he had an impact on in such a short time. That's just a testament to the wonderful, charismatic young man he was. Rest in peace Luke, and thanks for all the laughs.

I have such fond memories of Luke from when I worked in St Bernadette’s. He was always such a friendly boy. I particularly remember how happy he was when they got their new apartment, he said it was great as they had a panoramic view and he would be able to go skateboarding in the underground car park! Luke and the memories we shared will forever have a special place in my heart. Tina, you can be so proud of the wonderful boy you raised.
