I heard of Maddie’s death with great sadness. Despite growing up on the other side of the world Maddie was an important part of my childhood.
She was a wonderful woman and a great friend to my Mum, Margaret Moran, and the Geoghegan family in New Zealand.
Myself and my brothers Paul and Brian pass on all our best wishes and deepest sympathy to Rita, Moyà and Eanna.
Maddie rarely missed a birthday or anniversary and really was the epitome of a great Godmother.

So sorry to hear of the death of Madeline. I have happy memories of Leixlip Musical Society in the 1980s with Madeline and Carmel. May Madeline rest in peace.

concerts in Clonbollogue church organised by Madeline for many years,and also her wonderful hospitality after each practice. She leaves a wonderful legacy of a life of service to her church and caring for other people. May she rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to Rita, Moyà and Éanna on the passing of Madeline RIP. She was classmate of our sister Margaret and they became lifelong friends. Although Margaret and her husband Tom Geoghegan emigrated to New Zealand many years ago, they remained firm friends and Maddie was a welcome visitor to them, They visited with the Fox family on their frequent visits home where hospitality abounded. Maddie is fondly remembered by the Geoghegan sons, Paul, Brian and Conor in NZ and by the Moran family in Roscommon where she visited often while her health allowed. she was a most kind and courteous lady, a gifted musician and a friend to all in Leixlip and Offaly where she spent her retirement. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace

Madeline was a very sincere, well-informed, and talented lady. She made such a difference when she took on the choir in Clonbullogue church and gave her talents to many events with them. She also played at my wedding with her two friends from Leixlip who sang beautifully and enriched the day. She loved animals and was generous and giving to both animals and humans. A rare and wonderful quality in an extraordinary but modest lady.

Very sad news, condolences to Rita, Moyà and Eanna. RIP Madeline, a great friend to my Dad and all our family. Will be dearly missed.

I am truly saddened to learn of Madeline’s death today. We spoke several times on the telephone and we met once in Leixlip, a year ago or more.
When we first spoke on the phone a few years ago, I was astounded by how well she knew the modern Leixlip and it was always clear to me that she held the town close to her heart.
After I came to Leixlip as editor of the Liffey Champion newspaper in 1991, I would occasionally hear the old folk speak of her, always in glowing terms, like how you might recall a legend.
I knew of her love for music and singing, and while she lived away from Leixlip for many years, she retained many friends here, friends who are mourning her passing now.
Madeline was, I believe, a woman of strong views, a caring person, intelligent and of whom it can be said without flattery, a wonderful lady to the core.
I guess she’ll be remembered here in Leixlip by those who knew her fondly, as that... a legend.
