We send our deepest condolences to the family of Maeve Kelly. Thanks to her brother Brian we had the opportunity to meet Maeve in person a few years ago. What a delightful person she was! Before that, I discovered her literature and read everything I could get my hands on. Her work is of the highest degree. Her stories provide a portal into an Ireland not talked about enough. Maeve was never didactic. She was a writer of high sensibility and nuance and yet her words expose many issues about the balance of power in daily life. She stood up for the vulnerable and she did so also in her establishment of a shelter for abused women. I found Maeve Kelly’s writing profoundly interesting and moving. She opened up areas of inquiry into Irish life that male writers had not even touched upon. And yet when I asked her about her writing she said she wrote because she loved writing. She loved creating. That to me was such a beautiful revelation. In her passing we have lost a creator. But her work lives on. And her love lives on in those who knew her. Rest in peace, Maeve. You made a difference to society.
Rest in power, Maeve Kelly. It was an honour to work with you and publish your work. Deepest regrets to Joe and Brian
