Wir sind sehr traurig, von Maires Tod zu hören. Unsere Kinder haben dieselbe Grundschule besucht, wir waren Nachbarn und hatten gemeinsame Freunde. Obwohl Maire berufstätig war, ist sie immer da gewesen, wenn sie im Freundeskreis oder in der Schule gebraucht wurde. Ihre Herzlichkeit, ihr unglaubliches Lachen und ihre Empathie waren das, was alle an ihr liebten. Gerd erinnert sich so gern an den unglaublich schönen Abend in Dublin. Wir werden dich nicht vergessen, Maire.

My deepest sympathy to the Mellerick and extended family. Maire had a special way of brightening our every day work, bringing laughter, style and colour to the office but also sincere and genuine caring. May she rest in peace.

I was very sorry to learn that Máire has passed away. When she was on the PTA committee of Drogheda Grammar School she was a breath of fresh air, always enthusiastic and keen to enhance the pupils’ school experience. I was delighted to meet up with her again in more recent times in Sutton.

I was so sorry to hear of Maire passing. I had the pleasure of working with Maire on projects in Grangegorman. Always in great humour, full of energy, driving things on and bringing everyone on the journey with her while making them smile. My deepest condolences.

Eigentlich fehlen mir die Worte, euch unser Beileid auszudrücken.
Achim und ich möchten ein wenig über unsere bemerkenswerte Freundin, Máire, schreiben.
Kennengelernt haben wir Máire vor über 30 Jahren als die Familie nach Düsseldorf zog. Wir waren sofort fasziniert von dieser unglaublich offenen, kraftvollen, lebenslustigen und bunten (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) Irin. Sprache:egal; Máire stürzte sich sofort aktiv in das Düsseldorfer Leben für sich und ihre Familie und engagierte sich in der deutschen Schule für Daniel. Sie lernte die Sprache im DIY rasend schnell und prägte einige bons mots wie zum Beispiel "Ich gehe das Gras grasen" für "Ich gehe Rasen mähen". Diese bildliche Umschreibung wird in unserer Familie bis heute gern zitiert, genutzt und lässt uns verlässlich lächeln.
Máire war aber auch eine emphatische Freundin an nicht so guten Tagen.
Sie hatte immer ein offenes Ohr für Schwierigkeiten, Probleme und hat uns mit ihrer positiven, lebensbejahenden und -klugen Art die Stimmung aufgehellt.
Máire hat auch nach der Rückkehr der Familie in die irische Heimat niemals den Kontakt verloren; sie ist Düsseldorferin geblieben.
Máire und Mick haben uns in Dublin willkommen geheißen, sie war immer wieder gerngesehener Gast bei uns zuhause. Mick war oft an ihrer Seite und ist uns ein vertrauter Freund geblieben.
Wir sind dankbar für diese Freundschaft und wünschen der ganzen Familie, das Sie nach dieser unglaublichen Trauer bald wieder viele glückliche Momente feiern wird!

Maire was a trailblazer for women in engineering - being the only girl in a class of 100 at UCC in 1973-1977.
