Sincere condolences to Ray and all the Sexton family on the passing of your mother. May she rest in peace.
Sincere condolences to all the Sexton family on the passing of your Mum. She was a lovely lady. I have many happy memories of her from my childhood, both in 8 Barnstead and in Ardmore
Read by Mary Kelly (née Sexton) on Saturday 25th February

I adored my mum. Everyone did.

Having got the gift of the gab from her we would talk for hours on the phone and more recently through “the magic box” as she called it having breakfast together over a pot of tea .

She was so kind and loving and interested in everyone, even in her last weeks she phoned me all excited having had a great day out. She had met some of my school friends and was delighted with herself.

She was living her best life and I’m so happy for her that she got to the end she deserved.

She would be bemused by all the positive comments we are hearing from everyone about her assuming that they must be talking about someone else.

She was so strong looking after all of us but also both her parents and then dad and then her sister and she never put us under any pressure, never doing “poor me”

Now don’t get me wrong ,she was also an “Irish mammy” and could cut you in half with her one-liners to ensure that we didn’t get any notions of grandeur.

I want to thank you mum and dad for buying a house in Barnstead and for all our summers in Ardmore.

I’ll end with the words from an Ed Sheeran song

“you were an angel in the shape of my mum, you got to see the person I have become spread your wings and I know when God takes you back will say hallelujah you home”

I know she’s there already having been fast tracked

RIP Mum kiss Seckie for me.
Read by Margaret Sexton at the funeral 25th February 2023

In 1994 my father Tim/Tadhg died. Sometime before he died a kind neighbour greeted him as "The much minded Tim". This was more a reflection of my mother than my father. She loved to mind people, she saw this as her purpose in life. She was always making sure we were ok, worrying about us when life events were happening.
She was a stalwart of the Blackrock branch of the meals on wheels for over 40 years, she volunteered at the Mahon VDP shop and in the most recent pre covid years helped to organise the coffee mornings in the parish centre.
On the other hand my mother was not the most organised of people. My abiding memory of my teenage years was cries for help from the kitchen but when you would go to her she never had a job for you, she seemed to think we should know what she wanted.
As we got older and took over more of the cooking duties she couldn't resist the temptation to turn up or down the gas. Mum would never have won "Master chef". One by one we left home and set up our own lives, she never made demands that we come back to see her but we did because we wanted to.
My mother loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her parents, her siblings, nieces and nephews, her friends, her neighbours, her community, her God.
My mother died in her bed, in her night clothes. She died as she had lived, on her own terms.
She will be missed, God speed Mum.
Sincere sympathy to the Sexton family on the death of your Mum Máire
She was such a lovely lady, always very chatty and with something bright and cheerful to say whenever I met her.

Maura will missed in the Barnstead lunches and bridge sessions
May she rest in peace

Dear Mary,
Thinking of you and your family at this sad time.
Sincere sympathy to Bill and all the Sexton family on the sad passing of your Mum.
Our condolences to the Sexton family. We are sorry to hear of the passing of Maire. She was a kind lady with good humour any time we saw her. We sympathise with your loss. Rest on peace.
And now I’ll leave you all with a bit of a poem written by Patrick Kavanagh;

“Thank you, thank you,
We are not alone in our loneliness,
Others have been here and known,
Griefs we thought our special own,
Problems we could not solve,
Lovers we could not have,
Pleasures we missed by inches…
And I thank you and say how proud
That I have been by fate allowed,
To stand here having the joyful chance
To claim my inheritance,
For most have died the day before,
The opening of that holy door."

Go raibh maith agat.
I’ve been trying to think of something to say but all I could think of was “Slán Granny”; so I wrote her a letter on behalf of all her grandchildren.
The last one.

Dear Granny Cork,

I once grieved, wrote;
“Accept that some are gone,
Accept that they will never see your change,
Accept their pain,
Accept yours with arms wide open,
Accept that you are still around.”

But not today. Today I, we, do not accept our pain.
Our hearts are broken that we will not see you again.
All we can do is keep living now you are not here, surrounded by our family and friends,
Your loved ones who held you dear.

We knew you as “Flying Granny”, you came to see us all,
“Granny Cork” too, just a phone call away,
You inspired us every day.
Even with granddad gone, you kept going.
A strong woman, never idle.
Supporting your family, the charities, and your church, you had a full life!
But rest in peace now Granny, your job is done; we’ll take it from here.

“May joy and peace surround you,
Contentment latch your door
And happiness be with you now and Bless you evermore”
Slán, Granny
