Frank & I were shocked and heartbroken to hear of the sudden death of Rita. Though she and I met originally as colleagues when both lived in Dublin, we all became friends when we both moved to our beloved west. We have many lovely memories of being together in both her house at Tarrea Pier, with its incredibly beautiful views & in our own house with a different angle on Galway Bay. Great chats and much laughter. Rita enriched both of our lives. Her courage and fortitude and inner strength through her subsequent challenges were humbling to behold. So glad our paths crisscrossed. Our deepest sympathies to her beloved family in your heartbreaking loss. 💔
R.I.P dear Rita, beloved therapist and teacher who brought so much to our learning in the IIPP early days.
So sorry to hear of Ritas passing.
May she rest in peace.

Dear Cristóir and all the McCarthy family. My sincerest sympathies on the loss of Rita. I was close to Rita when she first returned from the UK but sadly our lives took different routes and we lost touch with each other. I have very fond memories of Rita from those early days.

I feel privileged to have known her on on her last day.
We met in the courtyard of the IMMA, admired and laughed at the giant Hare statue, we took selfies and shared them, promising to keep in touch and meet again.
Later, after the slow art tour and workshop together, my car broke down, and Rita was kind enough to sit with me in the cafe as I let off my grumbles about my failed new car, the garage, and the wait time of the AA. We looked at the menu, joked about the lentil soup and wondered about wartime rations in this trendy basement cafe.
My only regret is that I did not hang back and spend more time, with her urging me to go upstairs so as not to miss the call of the AA man, being underground.
Such a kind, generous soul.
What a privilege to have met and known her.
Deepest sympathy to her family and friends, you must feel her loss so deeply.
