My sincerest sympathy to Máirín's family and friends on her passing. Although I never met her, I really admired her as a formidable female politician and remember her lovely infectious smile, a very articulate and intelligent lady who could hold her own while being interviewed on T.V. May Máirín's gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Saddened to hear of Máirín’s passing after her long illness. She was a fine, upright and principled lady who brought those attributes to enhance her educational and political career. It was always a pleasure to encounter her, often with her sister Ita, whether in Leinster House or called to their home. Sincere sympathy to her family and friends and all who mourn her loss. Suaimhneas ort I measc na nAingeal, a Mháirín.
May Mairin rest in eternal peace. I worked with her in St Vincent’s Secondary School for many years. She was a pleasure to work with. We had great conversations in the Staff Room.

Sincere condolences to the Quill family on the passing of a lovely lady who was a principled public representative and who was always welcoming when one visited her. Many years ago she and I visited the ancient city Petra in Jordan. She was great company and I still have a picture of Mairin up on a camel!
May Mairin spend the rest of her eternal life at peace in heaven with Almighty God.

Heartfelt sympathy on the Death of Máirín. May She and Ita enjoy eternal Peace and Rest.
It was with deep sadness I found out of the passing of Máirín.
It was my privilage that she was a member of my class when both she and her wonderful sister Ita returned to education to study cultural & heritage studies in CSN when she retired. We had many fasinating and lively discussions in our history class, especially when dealing with the foundation of the modern Irish state.
She always brought great insight and was always so helpful of her fellow students, while all the while lighting up the room with her smile.
May you rest peacefully Máirín.

Is cuin liom Máirín ,
My father Michael Twomey used to give her a spin from the Ballyvourney Bus to Cuil-Aodha to be picked up for Kilgarvan.

I was so taken back and upset when I heard of the passing of Máirín, one of the ladies of this world, kind, intelligent and graceful. In an unusual turn of fate, I had the distinct pleasure of having Máirín and her wonderful sister Ita as students in my course on Cultural & Heritage Studies when Máirín retired.
This course had archaeological field-trips, one to Carrowkeel in Co. Sligo and typical of Máirín and Ita, they went training for the trip by taking a walk around the Lough every day.
Rather than simply sitting in and soaking up the course content on history, folklore and the arts, Máirín contributed with abandon, pulling from her rich heritage and learning and became a huge role-model for the younger students.
That year we completed a wonderful project and exhibition deciphering the cultural content of different grave memorials and Máirín was to the fore in adding extra content.
It was such an honour and privilege to get to know Máirín over the course of that year and I and my fellow staff and the students were enriched by and beholden to, a formidable and much admired woman.

Máirín was a shining beacon of integrity. At a time when opposition to corruption in the body politic was an absolute necessity she stood up, not many did, to be counted, a founder member of the Progressive Democrats. She certainly did the State some service and more. Of her it can be said that she was a great patriot. She never sought personal or public honours: she would have been a great Lord Mayor of her adopted City. Ní fheicfimid í arís mar sin. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
Deepest sympathy to the Quill family on the sad passing of Mairin.

Sincere sympathy to the Quill family on the death of Máirín, our neighbour for many years. She had a national profile as a member of Dáil Éireann which was well documented in the press. However, despite the time consuming nature of that work, she also found time to function as an effective local politician. She represented the interests of the people of the North East of the city on the Council for thirty years. At an even more local level, she was always very helpful: she could be relied upon to visit local schools, to support the nearby Residents’ Associations, and to help out in any and all local endeavours. She was a pleasure to meet: always a smile on her face, always ready for a chat. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

Lovely Memories of chatting with Mairin over the year, may she rest in Peace.
Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mairin.
She was an amazing woman who cared deeply about Irish people at home and abroad. She took great interest in and supported the work I was doing in decades past helping Irish immigrants resettle in Massachusetts.
She cared deeply about the village of Kilgarvan. When we met there circa 1998, Mairin was proud of the work being done with special needs children from the surrounding communities at the Quill Center in Kilgarvan. We had coffee there and chatted about our family’s friendship dating back to the 1920s when the Quill brothers of Kilgarvan were good friends with my grandfather Patrick.
It’s only fitting that Kilgarvan be her final resting place because it seems her heart never left it.
Rest in Peace, Mairin.

Jacqueline and I were very sad and sorry to hear about Máirín’s passing, and send our sincere condolences to her family. We were neighbours on the terrace for the past 20 years, and Máirín would occasionally come round for dinner, the last time only six months or so ago. It was always a pleasure to see her. She was great company and great fun, and always up for the chat on topics that ranged across her diverse interests, from politics to education, music and the arts, Cork and Kerry – though we suspected it wasn’t a totally successful evening unless it ended with a song or two, often from Máirín herself. Everyone on the terrace greatly admired her vigour and engagement, and her lifetime’s commitment to public service. Máirín made a difference. She will be much missed.
Rest peacefully Máirín, you were a fabulous teacher, I just loved you.

Condolences to the Quill family. I got to know Mairin in 1980 as a young teacher in St Vincent's Secondary school. Like a few other older teachers, she took me under her wing to teach me the ways of Cork and Kerry, me being from Sligo. It was a pleasure to know her and her wonderful sister Ita. Many a cuppa and stronger i had in Wesseley Tce. I also enjoyed canvassing with her during those famous elections of early 80s. A life well lived. Sleep easy Mairin.
Sincere condolences to the extended Quill family on the sad passing of your much loved Máirín. She was a lovely and kind lady who served her pupils and constituents with dignity and honesty.

I am very lonely learning about Máirín's death. I first got to know Máirín through the PD's. I loved her passion, good humour and convictions. Her family can be very proud of her impactful contribution to public life. Màirín had flair for mentoring and encouraging. I have little doubt but that Màirín will
soar into the presence of enduring grace. Máirín's life and death stirs unforgettable moments of shaping modern Ireland, breaking the mould and going the extra mile for those needing representation. I sigh with privilege and loneliness this night. May Màirím flourish in God's presence.
