Malcolm (Mac) Morris

Dear Lisa,

It was with great sadness that I learned from Jean-Charles that Mac had just left us.

Consequently, I offer you my very sincere condolences, I am thinking of you and I hope that you are well cared for during these very difficult and painful times.

As far as I am concerned, as I told Jean-Charles, I feel very guilty about not having come to see him more often to play music with him and it has indeed been many months since I seen him.

During this long period, I myself had some health problems, notably a rather heavy treatment with radiotherapy for a recurrence of prostate cancer, as well as a bronchial disease from which I still suffer today, but this does not excuse the fact that I did not check on him and his health.

However, I often thought of him and listened to the recordings we made together. I just hope that his last moments weren't too hard for him and for you and that he didn't suffer too much, at least physically.

He was a good man, a “beautiful person” as we say and a great painter, musician and singer. He will always remain in my heart.

I wish you a good courage Lisa, I kiss you thinking of you and send you the last song we recorded with Mac, may he rest in peace.

It has been such a privilege to have known Mac over the years and your desperation and sadness at this most difficult time must be beyond what any of us can imagine. Mac enriched the lives of so many and was admired and respected as an artist, friend and comrade and no one can take away those years you have shared and those special moments and how fortunate you were to meet each other those memories will last forever. And Lisa you know how much I appreciated the special friendship I had with Mac’s mother and father thanks to you both. Your friendship and solidarity in our shared international work was a highlight of my time in the European Parliament and is of course when I first met Mac. To one of the best friends I ever had…….So sorry we drifted apart as a result of the gap in political beliefs….sadly we will never be able to reconcile those differences now. But I can honestly say (politics aside)I loved you and count you one of my best friends ever . In all other ways, we had so much in common, and we shared so many happy times together.

Mac was such a beautiful soul, whose musical knowledge and talent, as with his skill as an artist, was known by all who knew him. Yet, his quiet confidence never strayed into something more than modesty. Watching him pass his creativity on to the school kids I had asked him to tutor, was an amazing experience. It was as though they were physically receiving a gift. What a man and what a legacy. Rest in peace Mac. It has been such a privilege to have had you in my life.

Very sorry to hear of Malcom's passing. He, and his lovely wife, showed my son such kindness and empathy during their few days together in CUH, even through his own troubles and illness.
