Manchán's passion for sharing his deep knowledge about Ireland and it's land and traditions is something I'm incredibly grateful for. While I'm not from Ireland myself, my girlfriend (soon to be wife) is, and being able to learn more about a history that she holds dear to her on the level that Manchán has taught it has opened up so many wonderful new ways for us to connect. I appreciate everything Manchán has contributed to everyone who has wanted to explore the history of Ireland. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. - Carter

To say I was touched by Manchán’s eccentricity and his outlook on life would be an understatement. He taught me about spirituality, folklore, and rejuvenated the Irish language for me. It’s hard not to wonder how much knowledge has passed on with his passing - I hope he will rest peacefully on the other side of the veil. I will carry his words with me for the rest of my life. Go raibh maith agat Manchán. - Kiara
My condolences to Manchán’s family and friends.
Encountering Machchán online a few months ago through RIA’s identity series, his breadth of learning and generosity of spirit were striking and thought-provoking. Sadly I have only learned of his passing today, through the obituary in COMPASS. I mourn with many his too-early departure - huge loss of a visionary and master communicator for the land and people of Ireland. His sense of duty, deeply rooted in bloodlines that reach far back in time, was finely tempered with curiosity, eternal youth and warmth of spirit. May his unique spirit live on in vivid memory, and through written and oral archive. May you his loving family find comfort.
Manchán, a chara, dear friend, mentor, challenger - champion for the wild places inside, and out. Through your curiosity, humour, generosity and grit you showed us how we are all interwoven , fighte fuaighte, on this shared Earth.

How I sense and feel the world is forever changed. There you are, in the way the wind catches the lip of a breaking wave, in "uaigneas na cladaigh" along the seashore, in the deeply weathered bark of an Atlantic Scots Pine, in the stones positioned just so to catch the light...there you are.

Go n-éirí na tonnta leat.

Farraige grá, an ocean of love, do Aisling, Cróine, Ruán, Ríoch, Líadain agus clann Magan.
Sincere condolences to the extended family and friends on the untimely death of Manchan R.I.P. He was truly an inspirational speaker and always brought a special connection with Ireland, nature and life.
Love and light to Manchán as he passes through this veil to the other realms he was already so connected to. His passion, joy, and imbas deepened my gaze into the wisdom, magic, and memory embodied within an teanga Gaeilge. I really feel the power of his passing and know that he'll shine brighter and bolder than ever in his guidance and inspiration from the other side✨️

Wishes of support to Aisling, all his family and friends- his spirit is surely soaring with the most beautiful heartfelt send offs over these weeks 🕊 I was glad to go to Uisneach to celebrate and honour him.

Go n-éirí do spiorad, a Mhanchán 🤍
Your life and legacy will forever touch the hearts of so many ✨️🌳

Love
Laura
Deepest sympathy to all who miss Manchán especially Aisling, his mother and siblings.
His gentle guiding spirit opened up the inheritance which is ours to share, protect and pass on.
His passion for history, Irish and nature - and his unbounded curiosity - has enriched us all.
His legacy is immense.
Go raibh míle maith agat.
Rest in peace and may your shining, undimmable, light continue to inspire and guide us.
You invigorated our spirits, you spoke to our souls, you touched our hearts. You taught us much.Go raibh maith agat.
Scattered
I couldn’t make it Manchán
Shed my shoes instead and put my palm to an Oak and knew you would understand.
But I have grieved for you this past month,
The one I would have followed.
The softness of words, used gently here.
Soft edges like the land.
‘A bit scattered’ they say, ‘forgetful’,
I’ll search now for the Irish word.
So I stayed with her,
my thoughts on Uishneach.
The untimely passing of beloved Manchan, ollamh dilis uasal, is a sad and painful loss to people everywhere. He will stay in this world, in our hearts. Words fail me in expressing my deepest sympathy, and thanks, to you his family, and especially to his partner Aisling, his brother Ruan, and his mother Croine. Manchan is like biodiversity, - we must dwell not on what is lost but on the cornucopia of his unique and beautiful legacy. Beir bua!
Condolences to Aisling, Ruán & Kerry and all the bereaved family.
I encountered Manchán in diverse contexts over the past three decades;
his four dimensional sense of landscape and our harm to it.
A natural talent nurtured by supportive family,
global spirit,
para-rochial,
faraway home
Gone too young but seemingly ageless.
For today's Month's Mind when the veil is thinnest
Rest peacefully Manchan.
You will never be forgotten.
Your spirit lives on in your work.
Condolences to all who loved you
May his heart Rip
You can shed tears that he days here seems to be gone or smile because he lived and lives on. Though his time here seemed brief his spirit is everlasting as close to you as your breath…
His soft voice is easy to listen to, inspired by his enthusiasm for language, land and lore. His authentic writing connects with you directly, simply using natural words like telling a story to a friend.
His ashes are at one today with the earth, where the seeds of wildflowers will find soft pillows, with Imbolg the fearbáns will reflect the light of the sun, Manchán will shine through…
Go mbeidh na haingil ag sclimpireacht i d’anam naofa Manchán.
For myself and my famiy , Mancan was a legend who we followed through his wonderful books and programmes. It is so heartbreaking for you Croina , Aisling and the rest of the family to loose a wonderful exceptional son and devastating for us and it seems the whole world far and wide. My very deepest sympathy, Marie and family.
Manchán was unassuming, congenial, brilliant and generous.
His generosity of spirit, enthusiasm for all things Irish culture and language inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him or knowing of him. His zest for life and passion for Ireland was contagious and electric. He knew the value of what we share and what binds us together as Irish people.
He approached life with a spirit of adventure and wonder.
He helped revitalise and reinvigorate interest in the Irish language and he did this with zeal and a profound intent to inspire others to enjoy Irish History language and culture as much as he did.
His playful approach to life and learning helped make the Irish language more accessible and engaging.
He was a truly unique human being and a true son of Ireland,

May he rest in peace
I send my condolences to those who knew him personally and were close to him. He won’t be forgotten,
Tá mo chroí briste ach cosúil leis an réalta thuaidh ní féidir linn teacht air, treoraíonn Manchán sinn fós.
A legend in his own lifetime. Rest in peace.
Have just watched the programme “listen to the land speak “ - so beautiful. Manchan is indeed watching the land from the other side now. What a beautiful soul! Thanks for inspiring me Manchan. X
Heartfelt sympathy to Mancháns wife, mother, brothers and sister what a joy it must have been to have Manchán in your life. Amazing passionate person for Ireland and our culture. Deepest sympathy to Manchán's,wife, mother, siblings, friends and many fans.He was an amazing human being and everything that he said was so accurate. If the world listened to him and lived accordingly, what a wonderful world it could still be.Also his commitment to the Irish language was truly inspirational and I'm quite sure that a lot of people that didn't really have his commitment, now have renewed interest in our native tongue and will make a definite attempt to build on what we all learned in school but had forgotten. May Manchán's Gentle Soul Now Rest in a Well deserved Peace and even though he has left this world for a much better and carefree place the memories he has left us will inspire generations to come.
Deepest sympathy to all the Magan family. He was one of a kind. It was lovely to have crossed paths with him.

Comhbhrón ó chroí le Aisling, Cróine, Ruán, Ríoch, Liádain agus le muintir agus cairde uilig Mhanchán. Ta brón orainn le bás Mhanchán.

Manchán gave us a fresh understanding of what spirituality was all about. Manchán’s vision was of a unified embrace of Deity, Nature and Humanity, inter-connected and energising each other. This was a pre-Christian spirituality, liberating, rooted in our Celtic past, and inspired by the mystics of Buddhism and Hinduism.

Manchán’s was a rich spirituality, a gift to all of us.

Go raibh maith agat, Manchán. Ní bheidh a leitheid arís ann.
To Aisling and all the Magan family. Deepest condolences on the passing of Manchán. Sadly the bell tolled too soon. A real son of Ireland. He facilitated a Travel Writing workshop in 2019 and he gave me very thorough feedback on my written work. I feel so privileged to have met such a wise and unique soul. I really enjoyed his travel reports and reading about his connection with the Irish language and with nature both in Ireland and abroad. He was such a good person, a real bridge. His funeral service was a very fitting tribute and he would have been so proud of all who contributed. Thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam
‘When great trees fall, rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down in tall grasses and even elephants slumber after safety.
When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile, we breath, briefly. Our eyes see with hurtful clarity.

And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms,
Slowly and always irregularly
Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration.
Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed. We can be.
Be and be better. For they existed.
By Maya Angelon.

Rest now Manchan.
Sincere condolences to all family and many friends, Ireland has lost a national treasure, rest in peace Manchan.
So sad to loose such a valuable human being. I loved Manchan and all he stood for, his principles, his authenticity, his love & of the Irish Language and Ireland, his genuine understanding of nature and the way he lived his life in a self built cottage in Co Westmeath. I have many of his books and attended one of his shows in the Ramor Theatre in Virginia. I followed his travel programs on TV travelling by train all across Europe. May his spirit always be with us.
Fuair mé mo spreadagh as duit féin chun Gaelige a fhoghlaim. Bhí do shaol alainn agus duine dearcadh ba ea tú. Slán Manchán

Firstly, I want to send my sincere condolences to Manchán's wife, mother, siblings, close family and friends .How blessed we were as a country to have Manchán amongst us. Amidst the wonder of all the stunning work he produced and his innate ability to inspire us all to love and appreciate our language and culture, he was such a force for good . Listening to him, and just knowing a human like him existed amongst us here in Ireland, seemed to bring out the best in us all. He gave a voice to so many of us who also feel such a strong connection to our land and culture, but are often written off as a 'bit odd' .Manchán helped us realise we are not alone or odd, and in fact he has awoken a whole tribe of us to continue on with the amazing work he spearheaded. Míle buíochas , a Mhancháin
I am deeply shocked and saddened by his passing, he brought me back in mind to the waters and the wild. He brought joy of the old ways, and our native tongue to the fore. May he rest in peace, and my deepest condolences to his dear family.
An inspiration to a new generation.
May you bring as much joy to those you are with now, as you did to us when you were here with us, though it was but a short time.
You will not be forgotten in this world Manchán, others now can enjoy your beautiful nature.
My sincere condolences to Aisling, to his family and extended family and his friends. Thank you for loaning him to the nation.
Imithe ar shlí na fírinne. Deacair é a chreiduint. Chomhbhrón lena chlann dílis. His life celebration was such a joy to witness, thanks to you all for sharing him so generously. I have bought two of his books and just feel like going into a cave for a month to soak them all up. He'll be delighted his book sales should soar these next few months!

Manachán, you gave voice to an awakening, a search for Spirit that we are all feeling. Our need to be connected, to the land and its waters, to the feminine, the language, our myths, to one another. Our remembering. Our oneness. I am so grateful for your work.
Deepest Sympathy to Aisling & Manchán’s Family. Loved his work & programmes & bought 2 of his books this week for myself & my grandchildren under 6, Irish words for Nature.
May He Rest in Peace 🕯️ embraced in the Natural Life he loved & shared with All of us. Thank you Manchán🦔
No coincidence that Manchan
passed into another realm of existence, with which he was familiar, on feast of Holy Angels. A modern day mystic, he was, and will continue to be a source of inspiration. The funeral service was a celebratory feast. Sympathy, and thanks to Aisling, family and friends for allowing all to participate in such a beautiful service.
Slán
I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Manchán. His profound connection to nature and his philosophical insights resonated deeply within me. His ability to articulate a very Irish philosophy of our natural world inspired deeply.

Is mó taitnimh a bhain scoláirí idirbhliana Choláiste Cois Life as do chuid cláracha teilifíse ar TG4 le mo linn ann.
Bhíodh siad i gcónaí ag súil leis gcéad sraith eile de “No Béarla” ach go háirithe,is an cheisteneoir a lean é.
Is mó dua a chur siad orthu féin an oíche sin nuair ba ghá dulag Cunard ach freagraí faoi shonraí an Chláir
Mhúscail tú suim iontu go léir sa timpeallacht is spreag tú na scoláirí ar fad chun Gaeilge a úsáid go laethúil.
Is mó tionchar a d’fhág tú orthu is táim cinnte go gcuimhneoidh siad I bhfad ar “No Béarla”
