I am shocked and saddened to learn of Manus's passing, and I send sincere condolences to the Maguire clan.
I met Manus many years ago, when we were both at Queen's University. A Fermanagh lad and a Belfast kid, we hit it off immediately, and had some great days and nights in the Students' Union and beyond. I spent a wonderful weekend at the Maguire family home, in Lisnaskea, where Manus's mother welcomed me like family - a truly gracious and kind person.
I haven't been in touch with Manus in decades, but I think about him often, and I treasure the memory of our friendship. He really was one of a kind.

Sincere sympathy to the Maguire family on the death of Manus ,he was a wonderful person who always had a smile on his face and a cheerful greeting, this in spite of the many difficulties he faced in his relatively short life.

Rest in Peace
I met Manus many years ago thanks to my late wife. She thought the world of him and it wasn’t long before I felt the same. No matter what he was suffering he spent his time looking out for others. His outlook in life was to help whenever he could. When my wife was very ill I could always see the joy in her face when Manus appeared. There might be better people in the world but I haven’t met them yet. Manus, thank you for letting me get to know you. RIP
To my dear friend Lasarina May you & family & friends of Manus find the fortitude needed over the coming days. May Manus be at peace. My positive thoughts are with you. Maria
I was very saddened when I heard that Manus had passed away. I knew him since school. He was a great character. He had some struggles through life but what always impressed me about Manus was his complete lack of self-pity when talking about his trials and tribulations. He never shrank from telling the truth – especially when talking about himself - but he always did it with a sense of humour. Down the years, I have met many people who can tell a good story – and far more who think they can tell a good story - but none I have ever met could coin a phrase or had as good a command of the English language as Manus. May he rest in peace.
Sincere condolence to Martin and all of Manus's family and friends at this very sad time. May Manus rest in eternal peace in a land free from suffering and pain and enjoy his eternal reward. Slan Abhaile Manus!
