Margaret Gilmartin
(née Morris)

My best friend for over forty years, we danced together, made wine together, saw our children into the world. You would whip up a gourmet four course meal in no time. When I moved to the other side of the world, I could call you when I was home sick. My visits back home were as if I never left, we took up the conversations as if we had seen each other the day before. You left a legacy to your credit, four beautiful children, Janet, Thomas, Robert and Niamh. Slainte my cherished friend. x .

Remembering the lady who gave a painfully shy girl a home away from home, security, love, encouragement and the feeling of always being welcome.
From the thrill of chips in a cone, to beach trips in the boot of the estate. To being given 20p to call in case of an emergency. Encouraging adventure and telling me “it will be an experience” 💕
Margaret, you were & always will be the voice in my head, pushing me out of my comfort zone. You & Rory showed me what family is. I thank you for the part you & Rory played in the person I have become. It was an honour & a privilege.
I love you & will always remember you as a complete legend. Simply the Best ❤️

What can one say about Margaret, her loss will be felt by Janet, Tom, Rob, Niamh and of course Rory . No words can come close to express the void she has left in their lives. Margaret always had time for people; a lady, funny, kind to a fault . My deepest sympathies

Dear Rory and Family, We were so Sorry to hear of the Passing of our Dear Margo. We were only talking about her last week. A truly wonderful person, who would do anything for any one. She will be sadly missed. Rest In Peace Our Dear Friend.

When I moved to Dublin, I was so happy and lucky to meet up with my friend from Kanturk, Margaret. We had many adventures together (which we never told our parents), to name but a few: (1) Margaret's guitar preceding her illicit entrance through the window into her lodgings (so the landlady didn't know she was staying there); (2) Margaret knitting a scarf for a friend and diligently measuring it each evening against the fireside rug, as she had deemed that the perfect length; (3) our trips to Croke Park to watch Cork play hurling and football, making sure we were always in the midst of the opposition supporters; (4) hitchhiking late at night from Dublin to Kanturk or, if we were feeling "rich", taking the train and persuading the ticket inspector that we were eligible for the children's fare - reaching the dance hall in time for the last dance; (5) hitchhiking to a beer festival in Wexford and failing to pitch our tent in the dark; (6) having to ask Margaret's permission to wear my own clothes (i.e. to check she wasn't planning to borrow them herself)!

My dear Margaret, when I was at my lowest ebb, you were there to pick me up and put me back together. I could always trust you to support me without judgement. You were my rock when I needed you most. May God bless you, comfort you and hold you in the palm of His hands where, God-willing, we will meet again.
