Margaret (Maggie) Byrne

My deepest condolences go the Byrne family on Margaret’s death. Margaret was the ‘Matriarch’ of Bolton Street. I have fond memories of working with her in DIT, Bolton Street, she had a great sense of humour and fun and excelled in her post as head receptionist. May she rest in peace. Best wishes. Caroline.

She was a lady, interested in her fashion and her style and brilliant at her work. We became great friends and remained so for all these years. I will miss the catch ups and the chats on the phone. My deepest sympathy to all the family on the passing of Maggie a truly lovely lady.

By a remarkable coincidence I saw Margaret's death notice today, shortly before her funeral Mass began. It was a lovely Mass and I was so happy to participate in it from a distance. We had a long chat by phone at Christmas, and although Margaret said her health was deteriorating, we planned to meet up in Dublin in Spring. We have been friends for years, having met in Henrietta St. when we both worked in the city. I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at her home and meeting her lovely parents (with whom she is now happily reunited) and her great neighbour and friend Kathleen. My deepest sympathy to Margaret's nieces, nephews and their families (of whom she was so proud), to her good neighbours and her friends from Bolton St. College and Cara on their loss. May Margaret reap her reward for a life well lived, and may she rest in peace in the company of all her loved ones and the Lord to whom she was so faithful.

I shall miss the dulcit tones and dry wit of Margaret from over the 20 years of friendship over coffee in and out of Cara and the frequent journeys home to Rathvilly. I was granted that special privilege and our friendship was long lasting. She was a very smart and independent lady with a great faith. So sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Margaret, who was so kind and courteous to our brother Brian (rip) while he lived in Cara. She always had a smile to greet us on visits, and even asked after our family as recently as Christmas just gone.
