To my dearest cousins, and close friends, Eamonn, Francis, Rosemary, Anne, Cyril and Siobhán, my heart is breaking as I write this condolence to you and also to your uncle Tony and the Goggin’s family. Auntie Phil, your beloved mother was married to Jimmy, who was the older brother of my late father Tom(my) Murphy (d.1994). It was a cherished privilege to know her for over 60yrs. My mother, Maura, and Auntie Phil, had a close friendship for those six decades too and always kept in touch with each other. Meeting Auntie Phil, Francis, Rosemary, Anne and oftentimes Proinnsias (Anne’s youngest son) and my brother Fr David Murphy (RC PP Chichester, West Sussex, UK) one Sunday each month over the last year or so, was immensely gratifying. Auntie Phil was Fr David’s Godmother, and he is so proud of that. In his Presbytery he has a beautiful framed photo of the two of them at his Silver Jubilee Mass in 2021 on the wall. My mother, and I, considered this little monthly get together the highlight of our month.
I will forever cherish those moments watching the two of them in deep conversation, chatting and laughing away about whatever seemed important to them at that point in time.
Auntie Phil hasn’t left us right now, she has merely gone ahead of us to the place where we will all meet again,
God willing.
May the gentle soul of Margaret Philomena Murphy (née Goggins) rest in eternal peace.
