Sarah, we're so sorry to hear about Marguerite's passing. We'll always remember her and Matt's afternoon visits to Delgany, where a song or two would always be sung amid the laughter and chat coming from the sitting room. Lovely times. I wanted to share my memories of Miss Donlon. Now aged 62, when anyone speaks of a teacher who left a mark on your life, the only name on my tongue is Miss Donlon. I was lucky to have her teach me for two consecutive years, one when I was only 9 and my dad died. Miss Donlon was my safe space outside of my family and her smile towards me every morning always assured me that she’d look after me on those days when the feelings were overwhelming. I still remember her little habit of staring while she was thinking and twiddling her earring. 30 years later and I saw her in the Country Bake in Dalkey and went up and asked if she used to be Miss Donlon and she smiled that smile I remember and she replied ‘and you used to be Cathy Devlin’. This still touches my heart even typing this today.
So while all her family are left with this loss, I am sure you all have similar memories of this amazing lady who touched so many of us…. And in such a positive way. Rest in peace Miss Donlon. Xx
