Dear Derek, Ciarán, Gráinne, Aislinn, Donnchadh and Muireann. We were all very shocked and saddened to hear the news of dear Maria’s untimely death. Our heartfelt sympathy to you all, to Maria’s grandchildren, daughters and sons in-law and to the extended Barton and Byrne families on your huge loss.
Maria was an amazing human being – full of love, fun, energy and giving. Our paths crossed in South City School Project/RETNS, particularly through fundraising. She worked tirelessly to ensure all our children could have the best equipment, resources and opportunities etc. possible. We have wonderful memories of fantastic nights in Mother Redcaps, at Jack Murphy’s renowned Table Quizzes, auctions, cake sales etc. No fundraising night was complete without a song from Maria! She was such a talented, creative and lovely woman – one of nature’s best. It’s difficult to believe we’ll never see her gorgeous smile and sparkling eyes again. Rest in Peace dear Maria. It is a privilege to have known you.

We were so sorry to hear of Maria's death, it's hard to believe someone so vibrant and full of life is no longer with us. We have such happy memories of times in SCSP/Rathfarnham: cake sales, singing, fairs, bag packs, you name it, Maria was in the thick of it, always encouraging. The world is indeed a sadder place without her.
Our hearts go out to Derek, and Ciarán, Graínne, Aislínn, Donnchadh and Muireann, and to all Maria's grandchildren. She left an amazing legacy, in so many ways, and we will think of her always with a smile.

Dear Barton Clan, Mama Maria was on another level of loving and funny. The despair you must be feeling no one can understand, but her memory will be with us forever. I will always remeber her as annoying positive and that we always did as you were told even when in trouble because we were her "sweet child". Maria left footprints on your soul and it truly was a blessing in known her.. always remembered as an exceptional person with an unbelievable soul.

To Derek, Ciarán, Gráinne, Aislínn, Donnchadh and Muireann. I’m finding it hard to believe Maria is gone from you and from this earth. She was - is no doubt - a huge and bountiful spirit. She, and you all, were so important to South City School Project and then Rathfarnham Educate Together and it’s apparent that Maria became equally important to CPC. She always gave of herself fully and with huge generosity, passion and wisdom - and a great singing voice. She’ll be sorely missed. My heart goes out to all of you. Hope we can give her a proper wake at some stage and celebrate her life as she deserves. May she live on through all of you and the musical and many other good memories so many of us have of her.
