Maria was an ever present in our lives, never missing a birthday or an occasion - even with a couple of us relocating to Australia, you could always rely on a text or a card, no matter what was going on.

There are so many memories I could share about Maria: our wedding back in 2024 was particularly special; I can go back further, to childhood, when following a visit, Maria arrived home to find an adventurous kitten had hitched a ride from our place to Gurteenminogue in the undercarriage of her car - that was one way of re-homing them!

It wouldn't have been unusual to see Maria drop in on a random Thursday morning in December, having come from a sea swim in Ballyhealy (back in the day) or Kilmore, in recent years.

She was made of sterner stuff than all the rest of us put together, and she showed that in recent years with the dignity and bravery she displayed in the face of illness.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
