Marie knew me from when I was born..but when I got the job as a family support worker there she was she took me under her wing and showed me all I have today. She held my hand all the way she gave me confidence and support her caring way and kindness to the families she helped along the way will never be forgotten Marie I will miss you so much your laugh I hear in my ear all the time and it was a honour to work with you always close in my heart

My deepest sympathy to all of Marie’s family and close friends. Marie’s extraordinary work was central to the Unspoken Truths project at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in the early 1990s. The Mantle told the story of life during Marie’s childhood and I have great memories of Marie sharing that story in the gallery at IMMA with President Mary Robinson on the evening it first opened to the public and in many galleries including Derry, and Letterfrack in Co Galway, when it toured Ireland. Marie was a wonderful storyteller and had a great sense of humour. May she rest in peace. Helen

I’m heartbroken that Marie has left us. She was one of the most amazing people ever. Marie introduced herself to me at the candle light procession in Lourdes on one of our many visits with the Dublin Diocesan pilgrimage. I travelled alone and Marie reached out and befriended me with her infectious laugh, warmth and friendliness. She introduced me to an exceptional group of women and I no longer felt awkward or alone. I honestly believe that Our Lady of Lourdes made that happen. Marie had a way of drawing people in with her striking personality. Marie’s ability to tell stories was second to none as she entertained us all with funny incidences from the past. Most of all, Marie was the woman with a massive heart full of love and kindness. My heart goes out to her husband, John and her children and extended family that Marie simply adored. Heaven is a far richer, happier place with Marie there and one day I’ve no doubt she will be there to reach out and welcome us all once again when our turn comes. May Marie rest in the loving arms of God who loves her dearly.
