I was very lucky to meet Marie back in 2010 when I came to Trim with Joe and the Indigenous football team from Broome. I have very fond memories of Marie and how welcoming she was to us travellers. Dear Uncle Mike, Maria, Michael, Joe ,Martin and Ella. Although Auntie Marie was far away she was always close at heart. She will be dearly missed by her family here in Canada. She will be remembered as a kind, caring and thoughtful. She was a wonderful Auntie and took her job as my godmother very seriously.

Deepest sympathies to all of Marie's family and friends at this sad time. I worked with Marie in Cannistown and she was a most wonderful lady with such a kind heart. Both being from Mayo, we enjoyed many a chat and laugh together. She had a special way of doing a Selection box raffle for the class at Christmas which the children loved and I have often used her idea over the years and think of her fondly when doing the raffle. May Marie rest in peace.

I got to know Marie first as Mrs Tighe in Scoil Bhríde, Cannistown, Navan. Her first day in Cannistown was in Junior Infants, alongside me and from that day on we became firm friends! Marie and l had great times together and l couldn’t praise her teaching skills, her patience, her genuine care and concern for the children enough. I became a better teacher because of Marie’s influence and gentle guidance.
