Marie O'Rorke

I was shocked to hear the news of the death of Marie O'Rorke. May she Rest in Peace. When I didn't receive the usual Christmas card from Marie I rang her phone and got an out of service tone. I then looked up RIP.ie and then got the sad news of Marie's passing. Our family were in touch with Marie going back to the '50s, the latest August '22 when Marie arranged a Mass for my late Mam, Bridie. Marie also got Masses said for my Late Dad Sam and also Late Uncle John Doody of Arnotts. The friendship with Marie goes back to when my Uncle John, Mam, Bridie and Marie started working in Arnotts in the 1950s. Also Marie was a very good Godmother to my brother Samuel. Our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Marie. Mary Gaine for the Gaine and Doody families.

It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside Marie in Arnotts, I learned so much and there was always kindness and a laugh. Even more so in the many years since, to build a friendship based on humour, interest and positivity…. “Tell me this now and tell me no more….” Rest well in peace Maire. We are all the better for your friendship and kindness. Our condolences to all who loved Maire….

My sincerest condolences to Marie’s family and friends. My mother worked in Arnott’s in the ‘50s, and loved her friendship even after emigrating to California. Marie was a lovely charming friend with calls and cards. Whenever we returned for a visit, we always paid her a visit to her home. I’ll never forget her wheeling out her tea trolley laden with such an array of treats! Her enthusiasm and energy were wonderful! My dear mother has entered hospice herself, so I won’t be telling her of Marie’s passing, and know they will sit down for a long old chat soon enough. Peace and comforting wishes to all who loved this special lady.

She was always so caring, kind, and helpful person, especially when both my parents were elderly,
and needed some assistance etc. She took Sally their dog for a walk on a regular basis when they were not well enough to do so. We really appreciated this.

We were all saddened to hear of Marie's sudden death. She was for many years a very loyal and committed member of the Guinness Choir and in more recent years one of our regular supporters at our concerts. A most charming and gracious lady. Sincere sympathy to her family.

I got a shock when I heard the sad news from one of your Arnotts colleagues, you were always so vibrant in all you did in life, Church affairs came first so active in Christ the King, you will be missed dearly, .charity work etc I may have been your Chiropodist but we had great stories to share, especially about your dear parents, rugby, golf, cycling everywhere, no wonder u had that beautiful tan & Spanish holidays with your friend Peral. Celebrating the Forrest Little Golf club memorial on Sunday I couldn't believe it when I saw Marie's name on one of the candles. Such a lovely lady. My memories go back to my time in Christ the King parish and the many cups of tea in Marie's home discussing parish business. I remember that Easter when we put up the one man tent covered in leaves and flowers representing Jesus tomb. We hoped Jesus wouldn't mind. Thank you Marie for your sense of fun, for your warm kindness and for devotion to your church.

Sincere sympathy to all Marie's family on her sad passing. Will always remember Marie for her cheerful and sunny outlook on life. Marie gave so willingly of her time to all parish events and was so reliable and helpful. She went beyond the call of duty bringing parish newsletters to housebound parishioners and also the Irish Catholic newspaper. I will miss her phone calls to clarify parish issues which always led to a good old chat. An ever present on the parish pilgrimage to Lourdes where she loved to sit by the river and pray at the Grotto. We will never see the like of her again. Rest in peace Marie.

On behalf of the parish pastoral council sincere sympathy to Marie’s nieces, nephew, cousins and extended family on the sad passing of dear Marie. Our parish is in mourning for one of the best parishioners a parish could wish for.
A daily Mass attendee, Marie was to the forefront in all parish teams as a Minister of the Word and of the Eucharist, the Pastoral Council and Liturgy group. Marie was always prepared to go the extra mile literally as she walked the roads of Cabra delivering parish dues envelopes and as Minister of the Eucharist to the housebound. She was in her element with the Liturgy team arranging Christmas trees and Easter symbols presentation. She also loved the tea parties where her table floral arrangements were legendary not forgetting the “darling cup of tea”. She also volunteered with the Legion of Mary and St Vincent de Paul Society and was a regular with our parish pilgrimage to Lourdes.
She truly lived a faith filled life loving God and neighbour. We thank God for the love Marie shared with us in our parish and the wider community. As Marie aims for the “fairway of Heaven” may the Angels welcome her to her Heavenly reward. Rest in peace Marie, we will miss you.
