Sending my sincere sympathy to all the family and friends of M De Paor.
Ms De Paor was my form Teacher
1984 /85 in Presentation Secondary School Terenure . A wonderful kind person whom dedicated her life to her students and teaching . May she rest in Peace .
To the family and friends of Ms de Paor, as I knew, please accept my sincere condolences.

Ms de Paor was my English and Latin teacher and year Head from 1975 - 1980. She was a brilliant teacher, quite simply the best. A very quietly spoken gentle lady but she had no difficulty controlling her class.

When we met for a reunion many years later, it was clear she had been a superb year Head also. May she rest in peace.
Great sadness at Marie’s passing…my sister Elizabeth (Betty) Silke taught in Presentation Convent when Marie was teaching..Betty always told us about the wonderful person Marie was and such a wonderful teacher..rest in peace dear Marie..
May Marie rest in peace. What a wonderful teacher she was! Passionate about her subject, crystal clear and witty. Her approach for teaching Latin could be transferred to many other languages. She made Roman history come alive! It was my best subject in the Inter. Cert. 1980 Presentation Convent D6. An inspirational gifted teacher ahead of her time.
My sincere condolences on the passing of Miss de Paor. A remarkable teacher who encouraged us to explore and appreciate the power of words. Their structure and interpretation to allow their beauty to shine. She will always remain fondly in my memory
Sending sympathy to Ms De Paor's family and friends. Was privileged to have come under the influence of such a special Latin and English teacher. She was encouraging, challenging, inspiring, and so kind. Her genuine commitment to education and to the achievements of her individual students, will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.
Sincere condolences on the death of Marie de Paor. Her English classes were both enjoyable and inspirational. A truly gifted teacher. May she rest in Peace.
I was so sorry to hear of Miss de Paor's passing. Sincere sympathy to her nieces, cousins & extended family & friends.

Miss de Paor was a truly exceptional teacher, kind & encouraging to her students, and I was lucky to have her for both English & Latin.

Her deep passion for English literature & the Classical World was inspirational; like many other past pupils I went on to study English at university. Under Miss de Paor's guidance, "Exploring English" & "Soundings" became treasured, well-thumbed textbooks (covered in scribbled notes from her class), which opened the door to a wider world. That she was able to make The Punic Wars and Latin grammar interesting & exciting to teenage girls is further testament to her exceptional teaching prowess! Every second of Miss de Paor's class was precious, as conveyed by the speed at which she recited the Hail Mary on entering the classroom!

I regret not reconnecting with Miss de Paor over the years to thank her in person for inspiring me during those formative teenage years.

I worked in Presentation for many years in the role of secretary and Marie was most helpful and supportive always. .
She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed a good joke! I enjoyed her company very much.

Her pupils were always her primary concern and my daughters were so blessed to have had her as a teacher.

May her lovely soul rest in peace.

I was one of 6 girls ,Anne,Mary, Angela , Catherine,Fiona and Una who were blessed to have had Marie ,Ms de Paor as a teacher of English and Latin over many many years!

To say she was unique and inspirational is an under statement.

She taught us to turn over words and explore their every possible meaning ..stretching our young minds, giving us a love of English literature and sharing her love of Shakespeare and poetry which continues to enrich my life .

We were so proud that she was our form tutor..6 P!
She was diligent, encouraging and kind.

She took us to ancient Greece and Rome which we never forgot ..

She knew our Dad,a Latin and Greek scholar, did some of our homework and would enjoy chatting to him at a PTM.!

In my career as an teacher of English in second level her phrase " it comes from the Latin" was one I repeatedly used .

She was so humble. she would never have believed how much her influence sustained me in my own teaching .

Her funeral service reflected her gentle low key
personality.

She will never be forgotten by all who were lucky to have encountered her in Pres.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to her nieces, friends and family.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Dear Marie
May you rest in peace, thank you for taking so much interest in my education in my early to late years in secondary school. I used to enjoy talking to you about how much I also loved English talking about the poems of different poets in your house. I will miss our chats very much. A great woman. You encouraged me a lot to get a good education and go to college. May you rest in peace you will be dearly missed by me and the rest of the walsh family.
Dear Marie. Thank you for your beautiful kindness to me in my early teaching career in Presentation Terenure. How I wish we got to speak when we passed each other on that escalator in Dundrum S. C. a few years ago. The backward look we shared that morning still with me. We'll meet again, please God.
Marie was a kind, considerate, unassuming and supportive colleague and it was a pleasure to work with her. She was also an inspiring, dedicated and respected teacher always sensitive to a student’s needs. May she rest in peace.
Condolence to the Power Family.
So sad to hear of Marie's passing. Marie was a kind, gentle, soft spoken lady. Marie rest in peace
To Miss de Paor’s family, neighbours and friends, sympathy and condolences on her passing.
Marie de Paor was a wonderful teacher and person.
Not only taking us on journeys into Ancient Rome and English Lit. but also into ourselves.
I’m hugely grateful to her for showing me how to have an enquiring and open mind, and to question everything.
She touched my heart with her kindness and warmth.
Sending love to help you on your journey Marie.
Miss De Paor was a wonderful teacher in Presentation, Terenure. She endeavoured to bring out the best in her students as she taught us English, Latin and History.. She will always be remembered with great fondness. May she now rest in peace.
Memories of a warm, gentle, calm teacher remain half a century on - it was a privilege to have Ms de Paor in our lives.
I am so sad to hear about Ms de Paor's passing. She was - hands down -the best teacher I ever had. Even as an ignorant teenager in Presentation Secondary School, I knew how lucky I was to have her for five years of English. She is the reason that I finally made it to UCD as a mature student, years after leaving school, and she is the reason that I am a writer today. She was so committed to teaching, driven by her own passion for literature, and we all wanted to impress her. Her style of lecturing us gave us a taste of third level education. I truly hope that she had some idea of how many students she must have inspired and I am so very grateful to have been one of them. May she rest in peace x
Ms De Paor (Marie) was my English teacher for only a few years but she is the reason I love poetry. I still have my English book from this time and often read it. I can still recite many a line thanks to her! She also helped me with her beautiful kindness when I was a struggling teenager. The loveliest of ladies. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí dá n-anam
I was taught by Marie for about 4 years !
She was so inspiring and so tolerant!
I was a scruffy Herbert and wrote in the margins! She called it “my Yeatsian tendency !
She also stood up for me in the staff room when another teacher was critical of me.
I remember too that she read out some of my dreadful poetry and made it sound like Yeats himself ! Loved and Never forgotten.
So sorry to hear of the death of Marie. She was a most helpful and kind colleague when I worked with her in Presentation Terenure. I remember she gave me a really useful list of books for young teens when my own were that age. My sincere condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.
I am so sad to hear about the passing of Miss De Paor - she introduced me to Latin and Roman History in Presentation Terenure .. she had such passion and challenged us daily…truly inspirational… her method of teaching even helps me solve many an obscure Wordle….! I recall bringing my Latin for Today Books 1,2 and 3 to bed each school night.. I couldn’t get enough of this new old world she brought to life for her pupils..sic transit Gloria Mundi… RIP Miss De Paor.. smile and rest easy.. you touched so many lives in our formative years.. I’m so grateful to have known you…. I’ll light a candle for you tonight to guide you on your journey.
Ms De Paor was the sole reason I pursued my studies to be an English teacher and I told her so at the beginning of my long career teaching English and Geography at Second level. She was a formidable woman who meant business every time she swirled in with her chalk filled gown. She was a wonderful Latin teacher and brought her love of the Classics into English up to Leaving Cert. Her marking was meticulous and she set a high bar for those essays. I love poetry to this day because of her. She really brought true meaning to the word “ inspirational”. Many times through my teaching career I could hear her words coming through as I struggled to convey the nuances of Shakespeare and LC poetry to my students.

Sincere condolences on the death of Marie de Paor. A wonderful teacher very fondly remembered.
I am so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Miss de Paor. I was so fortunate to have her as my teacher of both English and Classical Studies in Presentation Secondary School, Terenure. She was an absolute inspiration and genius.

I loved her classes and her deep passion and I am so grateful for the encouragement and self belief that she instilled in me.

An auntie brought me to Greece when I was in 3rd Year when she saw that I loved Classical Studies. I gave Ms de Paor a “mini Parthenon”, as she called it, as a gift, on my return. She loved it.

Thanks to Miss de Paor I studied Classics in UCD and I returned to Presentation as a past pupil and trainee teacher. She was so supportive and encouraging.

I am still teaching in Presentation after 35 years and I would like to think that I am carrying on Miss De Paor’s passion, insight and integrity. But she is a very hard act to follow!!

I will never forget her and I will always be so indebted to her for the love of Classics that she instilled in me and others.

Requiescat in pace

I will always remember Miss de Paor. She was indeed a gentle person and a wonderful teacher. I still have some of the essays she assigned to us - the titles usually in Latin. She challenged us to think deeply about so many things beyond the walls of our little world. She gave me a great love of drama and poetry which I have enjoyed all my life. Thank you , Marie.
