Today is a sad day but a happy one at the same time.It is a sad day because I know that I will not be able to chat to my Mammy again as we did before,but, it is a happy day because I am sure that she is watching all of us,no matter where we are.
Many times I thought that she was ahead of her time.She was multi-talented and multi-tasking as we say nowadays.
Mammy was born during the pre-world war 2 years and it must have been difficult to grow up without a mother granny died as her mother died she was very young.
Years later,she met and married my Daddy, Eugene and gave birth to nine of us (Kevin my twin brother ,died shortly after birth and she always said that was one of the major hardships which she had to endure in life.
Even so, she managed to be a great mother-she was the best cook ever!!-she gave Irish dancing lessons and I will always remember her as an avid reader.
Mammy had a full life.She travelled and lived a lot with her husband,Bill.
It was great to hear her talking about her experiences in different countries: Spain,where I live,England etc.
Mammy was also a wonderful story-teller and she took up writing in her fifties and published many a piece of work.
It is curious that now if you type "Mariette Connor" in Google,she comes up as Number One....but sure she was and will always be Number One!
