I spoke to Mark last month when I heard of his illness, and was humbled by both his strength and calmness in the face of adversity. He regaled me with stories of his family when it was I who should have been entertaining him . That was the measure of Mark and we are all the better for knowing him

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.I knew Mark firstly as a neighbour in Artane and then later when he started his insurance journey in General Accident. Mark was always in good form an up for the craic but behind that was a strong determination and professionalism which helped him become one of the top insurance people in our industry. A fantastic person who was taken far too soon. RIP.

I met Mark back in 1995 when he joined GA and have some great memories from the good times we had back then. Always a pleasure to be around in and out of work. Crossed paths with Mark since then through our insurance careers and in recent years have enjoyed the pleasure of Mark, Annemarie and Avamarie in Carvoeiro, Portugal where both our familes holidayed. Rest in peace Mark. All our love and strength to Annemarie and Avamarie and all of Marks family.

I only today (2nd April) heard of Mark’s passing last week . I just wish to express my deepest sympathy to his family and in particular to his brother Paul. I dealt with Mark on numerous occasions during my time in the Insurance Industry and found him to be as professional, knowledgeable, kind, courteous and above all so always “Ever Friendly” . I know he will be hugely missed by Paul who I worked with for several years. Maybhe Rest in Peace

To Anne Marie, Eva-Marie, Paul and the Whelan & Purcell families. I first met Mark when he started his insurance journey in General Accident . I was lucky enough to mentor him for a while back then but he would always claim he learnt nothing from me except Backlogs !! . It was easy to see back then that he had a great career ahead . His infectious love of life and craic made him so popular amongst everyone, young and old. Underneath that fun exterior was a willingness to learn, work and develop and ultimately that drove him to be a huge figure in our insurance world. We were good pals and our mutual passion for Spurs kept that bond alive even during the last difficult two years when we shared the usual moaning and groaning and joking about how poor Spurs were.
His bravery , his dignity , and his love of his family during the last two years will be my abiding memory .
Mark - you made me smile every time we met , you brought humour to my life , I will miss that but the memories will always make me smile

I hope that the wonderful tributes to Mark will sustain you all in the difficult times ahead . He will be a guiding light on your shoulders.
Rest Easy Mark - and Spurs will surely win the Europa Cup for you this year .

I met Mark in London 10 years ago and our friendship was always going to outlast the work stuff. A brilliant funny entertaining guy in the good times, but more importantly Mark was a caring genuine friend, who proved to be an absolute giant of a man and example to us all, during the worst - I’m so proud to be able to call Mark my friend.
