My deepest sympathy to Martha's family. She was an amazing woman with such a love for traditional music agus an Ghaeilge. Always loved meeting her.
Dear Frank, Margaret and Marie, we were very sadden to hear of Martha’s passing. She was a wonderful woman. Please accept our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences on your loss.
The young Mrs. Torpey was a disciplinarian and a powerhouse, when teaching in Ballycullane NS. in the '70's and early 80's.
Together with her little friend "JOHNNY" (Metaphorically speaking) were a force to be reckoned with.
It wasn't until she introduced and nurtured the love of Traditional Irish Music, as an after school curriculum that both teacher and pupil's relationship began to emerge and flourish.
She introduced three great Music Teachers, Mary and her Sister, the Late Liz King and Billy O'Dwyer from New Ross,
all who were to play a major role in our young and developing lives.
She took us to places, we could only dream about, as we went on to achieve many All-Ireland adulates.
Little "JOHNNY's role became less and less frequent but was never too far away, as we always knew of his existence.
Mrs. Torpey's departure from the School was a tremendous loss, but she knew, she was leaving the school and her students with a endearing legacy that could never be forgotten but could only be replicated.
We give thanks for her long and generous life and career. She was certainly one in million. May she rest in peace forever.
Condolence to Margaret, Frances and Marie and to all who knew loved and cherished her.

Very sorry I couldn’t make the funeral which I’m sure was very well attended. Mrs Torpey had such an impact on the lives of so many people. The music at Danescastle was so enriching for me as a child and I will always be grateful to her for that. Sending all my love and best wishes to Marie and all the family - Sarah

Mrs. Torpey had a profound impact on so many lives and was truly one of a kind. I had a close connection with your mother, albeit forged in fire in Danescastle NS, she was somebody I deeply respected, and I owe so much to. I will always remember her for her kindness and compassion and the remarkable speed with which she could reach my desk whenever I was misbehaving! I regularly think of her and will always remember her with great fondness.

We were so very lucky when Martha came to Ballycullane NS to teach, a great educator and helped the children in so many ways but especially with their music. When she left for Carraig school we often joined up to travel to Slogadh and Fleadh around the country, we saw areas here in Ireland that we never would have got to see so Martha was the gift that kept giving

Hi Frank,
I was very sad to hear about the passing of your mother, Martha. Please accept my sincere condolences.
Although I did not know her well, except for the handful of times I met her when I stayed at your house when we were at boarding school and also when I met her again a few years ago on a trip back to Ireland, she did leave a lasting impression on me.
It is clear to me that she was a woman of great character, widely respected by all who knew her, and deeply admired for her dedication as a teacher and her passion for traditional Irish music and culture.
I hope you find some comfort in the love and memories you shared together.
My thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything at all I can do to support you.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Michael Burton.

I have fond memories of Mrs Torpey when my lovely sister, Mona, took up her first teaching post in Ballycullane N.S. Mrs Torpey was ahead of her time in her contribution to music and the arts.

Cásaim bhúr mbris le clann Mhárta, agus na gaolta agus a cáirde i gcian agus i gcongar atá faoi bhrón ag an am duairc, uaigneach seo.Comhbhrón ó chroí le Mairéad, Proinsias agus Mâire ar bhâs bhúr máthair dílis. Bean díograiseach, consciasach ab ea í agus duine pobal comharsanúil a raibh grá mòr ina croí aici don Ghaeilge agus go mór mhór don gceol gaelach. Táimid go mór faoi chomaoin aici as an obair a dhein sí ag múineadh is ag spreadagh na bpáistí chun uirliísí éagsúla a sheinnt. An oidhreacht ba mhò a d'fhág sí againn ná an suim a mhuscail sí sa cheol in ár n'óganaigh. Leanann an ceol ar aghaidh ach mo bhrón tá a rás rite ag Martha agus í imithe ar shlí na fírinne.Solas na bhFlaitheas go bhfeicfidh a hanam uasal agus leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aicl.
