Neighbours children , Martin and I have been in and out of each others life for as long as I can remember. His death has shocked me profoundly for he was a good and decent man. Old fashioned in the best sense of the word he treasured old friends, old haunts and his old clubs - the Well and the Barrs and fittingly he returns to the Lough , a place he never really left . I am presently abroad and will attend 11 Mass on Wednesday - but not for Martin. Knowing him he is already in the Winners Enclosure , a cigarette in one hand , a winning docket in the other, the Chambers smirk and of course Shergar trying to make it into the photo. No , my prayer is for those who grieve , especially his most precious daughters Claire and Alice and of course Ronnie, Michael and Mary. Farewell my friend.
