On my own behalf, and also that of all past and present members of the Irish Soccer Referees' Society, Clare Branch, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to all the Connolly family and friends on the sad loss of your beloved Martin.

The passing of Martin Connolly marks huge loss to the world of traditional music, both as a superb performer, craftsman and a great human being.

I first met Martin many years ago when we were part of a group which did a summer season at Shannon Airport Hotel. Down through the years it was always a great pleasure to meet Martin and one felt the better of his company.
His love and enthusiasm for the ceol was obvious as he played, and I loved being on stage with him.

I will fondly remember Martin's kind nature, wit and good humour, his encouragement and passion for music. In addition to being a fabulous musician and maker of the Kincora accordion, Martin was a beautiful human being - kind, generous, soft-spoken, good-humoured, entertaining(with a glint in the eye), a decent person, whose company and musicianship, I've always enjoyed.

I met Martin a number of times at fleadhs over the past 10 years and he was an absolute gentleman. I still listen to his album "The Fort of Kincora" regularly. He was one of the all-time great button accordion players.
