Quite by chance I have just found this notice of Martin's death. We first met Martin and Val in 1982 when they lived at Pluscarden and we were staying in a holiday cottage just near their home. At the time, our daughter, Maren, was 6 years old and Martin's 'little mascot'. We met up with them several times over the years and after they moved to Aboyne, stayed with them one weekend. They also visited us here in SW Germany for a holiday. We have so many happy memories of them both - at the stained glass studios in Pluscarden and Crathes, going for a walk with Martin and his dogs and many other things. For many years we corresponded regularly and I would send them a photo calendar each year. Once they moved to Ireland although I still wrote to them, I didn't hear anything more from them. Maren told us she'd found an obituary for Val so we knew Val had died but didn't know where Martin was. I would have loved tohave got in touch with him again. Both were lovely people who we will never forget the happy times we had with them. RIP both of you.

Deepest sympathy to Bernard and all Martin’s extended family. Martin and Valarie were the most kind, lovely people and are sadly missed by our family. Martin is often talked of and we have happy memories of himself and Mundo his lovely dog visiting and chatting. Our deepest condolences on his death. May he and Valarie Rest In Peace.

We knew Val and Martin since they came to live at St Margaret’s Aboyne, over 30 years ago.
They were devoted to each other. and shared a depth of faith that carried them through the times of depression. I remember animated conversations about art and stained glass window making with Martin. He was so gifted and we treasure the small stained glass window he made for us with our family initials.
Val and Martin were always so welcoming when we used to go through to their home for teas and coffees and delicious cakes after Sunday morning Mass with our little ones.
They created a warm, happy place for people to meet and relax together.
So here’s to you dear Martin. Reunited with your beloved Val.
God bless you and keep you and thank you for your friendship and happy memories. Rest in peace.Amen.

Of all the many blessings, however great or small, to have had you for an uncle ‘Martin’ was the greatest one of all. The family chain may be broken, and nothing seems the same but as God takes us one by one, the chain will link again. RIP
