To the Whelan family. It was with sadness that we heard of Murty's passing. A gentleman through and through. I heard many stories over the years of the friendship he and my Dad (Ger) shared, of their going to school on their first day together and sitting together . Later there were tales galore and lots of chat and laughter. Murty brought fun, including when he and his band played at my wedding - fabulous memories. Then we got to spend time in Rivervale when Bridie and Tess shared a room for a while , and got to know his family. It is with pleasure to have known him and a sad heart that we the Lewis family wish Murty to rest in peace .

It is wit genuine regret that I have learned of the Death of 'Murty' Whelan to day and too late to attend his Funeral Mass and Burial. To his Dear Family and Extended Family included Son Paul and Son =in=Law Ger Corrigan and all Other Relatives who are in Mourning for his Great Loss, I extend My Deepest Sympathy. Murty was a Talented and Noted Musician in many spheres including THE NENAGH SHOWBAND,T HE NENAGH BRASS BAND and in earlier times he excelled as a Piper in THE SEAN TREACY PIPE BAND where My Late Father Bill Foley was Pipe Major. Murty could 'Pick Up' a Tune with ease and looked Proud n his Saffron Kilt and Green Blazer. Solas na bFhaitheas do a Anam Fior Dilis. NI BHEID A LEITHEID ANN ARIS.
