I'd like to wish sincere sympathy to the Holmes family on the passing of Martin. He was an integral person in the development of youth football in the village of Murroe, his passion for the game inspired many (myself included), he was a football purist with a wealth of knowledge on local soccer, he was tactically ahead of his time, and thus made any of the teams under his watch a handful for the top clubs in the Limerick County youth league at that time e.g. Charleville FC, Rathkeale FC, Croom United.

So sorry to hear of Martin's passing. Growing up in Gilmartin Park he was such a familiar and comforting presence, always out at his pier, fag in hand, chatting with the neighbours and never without a salute. Even after I moved away, every time I call back to visit home, there he'd be, part of the rhythm of the place, just as he always was. Martin was truly part of the heartbeat of the estate growing up, and those memories stay with you. My thoughts are with all the Holmes family at this sad time.
