Martin, you were a giant of a man, the perfect example of public service and true love for all that you met, a big piece of Westport has passed on with you, but your legacy is everywhere in the hearts, minds and characters of those you help shape by your tireless devotion to the town and it's people. You were always a leader from the early days of the WYAG and the infamous Plougastel trip. Fond memories of taking the boat from Cork to Roscoff and a wonderful week for a young teen in the early 80's when there was little or nothing to do but hang around. Martin was an inspiration and a leading light in Community Games at local County and National level. I am privileged to have known Martin over many decades and he always gave so generously of his time support and friendship for the many causes in the Westport Area and beyond. I first meet Martin at his Uncle Jocie’s House in Pearse Terrace in 1971 .A lot of water has. gone down the Mall river since then and for every drop I could record a good deed done by Martin it there was a manuscript big enough to hold them . I have many treasured memories and I hope all the lovely memories you all have of Martin will help console you at this very sad and difficult time and may Martin Rest peacefully in the arms of the Angels

Martin was a wonderful, selfless man who always supported and encouraged young people particularly to reach their potential. There wasn’t a time he didn’t ask ‘how are the lads doing?’ when we met him in town. He will be sadly missed. Our prayers with his family and friends.
