Reading of Martin's death evoked a memory of meeting him with his mother on the train to Banteer sports in the 50s.The trains that time were single carriages jam packed with overly excited children on the annual outing to Banteer sports,How lucky were we to share a carriage with the lovely Keating family?.Martin ,if my memory serves me right was home on holidays at the time.I would say he was in his late
20s roughly 18yrs my senior, and 13yrs my
father's junior,but what an interesting conversation ensued that lovely sunny June day between Ted Lynch and the young Martin Keating?.Politics republicanism ,current affairs ,What an education I ,a young girl then received on that short journey?. I send my sincere sympathy to all Martin's family and say to you cherish and be proud to be part of the legacy of one of Kanturk's finest families ..."The Keatings of Kilroe".
