To our beloved Uncle and Godfather, Matt. I'm sure if everyone you knew wrote a few lines, we'd have a best selling book to read. I know how much you loved us even if the sentimental words didn't always come easy for you, you'd end up writing it down and mailing it instead. But I cannot tell you how much we loved you too. The kids loved being on the gig with you and enjoyed the stories. The trips to town was always an adventure. The annual pilgrimages to Sligo/Wexford to see Nunny. Somehow you always trusted my driving when others did not. I look back on the unforgettable moments both here and in Boston, good and sad ones. As much as you hated to see the Yanks arrive at your doorstep, the good byes were never easy. The last stop for us was usually at your house on our way to Shannon. The old route had been replaced with new highways. That was something you never accepted. You wanted things to be simple. The way you lived your life. The pandemic kept us away from saying good bye one last time, so you may have sadly got your wish. I'm only sorry you weren't here long enough to see how many now realize that the simple things in life are the only things that truly matter. Thank you to our family, longtime neighbors and friends who were there for him, brought him to Mass, and cared for him when the ocean kept us apart. God bless, and keep you safe, Uncle Matt.
