I offer my most sincere condolences on the death of Mary to her extended family and her daughter Tania also. Mary was a marvellous inspiration for my studies of economics sociology and European languages when I met her at official events in university and on the campaign trail during elections. Her contribution to the country has been felt by everybody. Her legacy will live on long after her untimely demise.

Mary and I admired her, and followed her significant life, passion and achievements with particular interest.
She made a difference!
May she rest in peace.

Rest in peace Mary.
Rest in peace Mary.
I heard the sad news that Mary Banotti had died on the evening of my recent visit to Brussels - the city she had introduced me to after her election to the European Parliament in 1984. MEPs had the facility to invite journalists to seminars there and I was honoured to be her guest in the old Hotel Charlemagne as the newly appointed Environment Correspondent of The Irish Times.
She was passionate about environmental issues - unusual enough in Fine Gael at that time - and was a real trail-blazer for the Greens who followed much later. She was also committed to social justice, which was something that I greatly admired, and couldn't have been happier living in a "two-up, two-down" terraced house among the tightly-knit community of Ringsend.
On the day of Mary's funeral, I was actually in Notre-Dame de Paris to see the ongoing restoration work on the great Gothic cathedral, and remembered her there for all the good things she had done in her life. My sincere sympathy to her beloved daughter Tania, her sister Nora Owen, her brother Michael and the entire O'Mahony family.

Fear no more the heat o' the sun,
Nor the furious Winter's rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone and ta'en thy wages.

Mary Banotti was simply an exceptional woman. She featured in my life for many decades as a close and dear friend of my parents Mavis and Bruce. Always lively and full of chat, she was warm, intelligent and engaging. I loved her company back in the day and was very lucky to spend one on one time with her in Fern Dean towards the end of her life. Mary was part of a generation of talented pioneers focused on making the world a better place. They worked hard, were incredibly focused and they got stuff done but they never lost sight of the need for fun and laughter along the way. You will be greatly missed Mary ❤️
To Nora and the extended Banotti & O Mahoney families, sincere condolences on the death of Mary.

Dear Tania, Nora, and the whole family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was truly an inspiration and role model for me, and I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to work for her in Brussels. From the time we met in 1989, she told me how I must meet Tania, as she was so proud of her wonderful daughter, who has become a great friend.
Sending much love,

Sending much love,
I did not know Mary personally however wish to express my sincere condolences to her family and friends. Growing up in 1980s Ireland, there weren't too many folks I looked up to in the public eye beyond musicians. Mary however jumped out in every interview, debate, appearance. She struck me as intelligent, interesting, engaged in change-making and crucially - international in outlook (which gave me hope on this small island we call home) and with a glorious glint in her eye. Years later in Dublin I would see her around town from time to time and think - there's a woman worth knowing. Riposa in pace, may the road rise to meet you Mary.
Sincere sympathy to Tania , Nora and the O Mahoney family on the passing of Mary. Mary was a strong advocate of Justice and of highest values and principles. Mary always greatly assisted and supported all requests under the Hague Convention and requests that required diplomatic/ goodwill for the return of children who were victims like their families of Child abductions from the Republic of Ireland.

I have such fond memories of working with Mary - she was an absolute inspiration - and of socialising with her. An exemplary public representative - like her sister Nora, and a wonderful warm and generous friend.
The Presidential campaign was a particular joy and one which she engaged with her boundless energy, wit and wisdom.
Her funeral service was beautiful and a fitting tribute to a woman who supported other women and always did her very best to make life better for others.
May her loving soul rest in peace.
