I spent a very pleasant afternoon in the company of Mary back in 2010 while researching the history of Cork Airport. Mary and her husband were on the 1st flight out of Cork to Dublin in October 1961 having won tickets in a Jacob's Biscuits draw. She was a great woman, had a wonderful memory and told a good story. Mary was a great friend to my late mother Ita when they were both active in Douglas ICA.
Mary was also an early and dedicated volunteer with Altrusa Literacy Scheme. She spoke fondly of her learner, and continued to support him well past the end of her formal role, as did he of her.
