Sincere sympathy to Tom, Simon,Rosalind and all the family on the death of Mary.May she rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy for all Mary’s family and singing students, friends and colleagues.

I was with Mary for singing at the beginning for many years, from South Circular to Chatham Row to The DIT College of Music. Have many fond memories from those early days. Mary’s gift was her love of song and encouraging people to sing together. When I started to write this a flood of songs came to mind and all the energetic conversations we’d have about repertoire. Mary approached each song with the same respect and pathos whether it was When Daisies Pied, Caro Mio Ben, Chanson Triste, Ich Trage Meine Minne, Dei Vieni, Pleurez! Pleurez, mes yeux! a Sacred Mass, Moores Melody, English or Irish song she seemed to have an endless supply of songs sometimes pulling a gem from the relative obscurity of her stacked shelf and handing it over like a treasured secret to breath new life into it. She loved listening to us all and went to every Feis and performance. You always knew how you did by the look on her face, a wry smile for odd mispronunciation or pure glee when you did well. Sitting beside her, you could feel and hear her breath every beat and note. There was always a bunch of us in those days. Whether bundled into her car on a wet drive to Sligo Feis to take on a rather ambitious Mira O Norma duet, a hilarious operatic sextet I think it was from Der Rosenkavalier in the John Field Room or Feis prep. singathons in her house (mad dog in tow), it was fun. It’s hard not to have strong and lasting memories of time spent in Mary’s company. Her seemingly inexhaustible energy tore through music, and life in general, carrying all around her along for the ride.

I remember particularly the time we spent working together in the United States in 2005 - a wonderful mix of hard work and hilariously joyful moments - reminding us all why we loved to work in music, as she so spectacularly displayed to those lucky enough to work alongside her.

Many sympathies to her family and friends.
