I’m deeply saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a wonderful person, and I’ll always cherish the memories of her kindness. I still remember piking hay up at Boarman’s Hill with John, looking forward to the tea in Lucozade bottles—perfectly mixed with milk and sugar—and the best ham sandwiches she made to go along with them. I’ll never forget the Action Man set she got me; it brought me hours of enjoyment. She truly had a heart of gold. My sincere sympathies to the Butler and Carroll families.

Mary, was a truely lovely lady, she had a kind warmth about her and I'm pleased I grew up knowing her.

I spent as much time as possible down the road at Mary and John's. Their home was always welcoming to all my childhood questions and it was with them that I forged my interest in farming. Sometimes there, nothing was said, nothing was needed to be said, just contentment of the presence of each others company. Time with them I will always remember fondly.

Mary and I were often laughing. John just rolled his eyes how we would try and work out where to tie a head of cabbage to the Beetle to move the house cow to different field. The cow quite liked getting into Johns garden! We also debated if we should dye his hair red or pink when he would fall asleep in the chair listening to the fire crackle or should we cycle to the Canary Islands for Spring or Summer. Mary even with her poor knees was very good at balancing bags of baking, warm tea in glass bottles wrapped up in newspaper on her bicycle out to the meadow, so we knew we were good to cycle that distance. The tricky part of our plan was the water and should the dogs stay home with John......

I have so many lovely memories of Mary that I keep dear.
