Helen, Junior and all the Cooke family, I just this minute heard about Mary - the Bed of Heaven to her. My niece phoned me from the USA, she was sure I’d have heard. The Cooke family were a big part of my life and affections. I’m heart-broken for all Mary’s relatives and many friends. I have Peggy’s photo beside me every day - July 6th, just months ago. God bless you all.

I was really saddened to hear of Mary's death. I first knew her when I was a young student at UCG and she was a trade union stalwart at the time of the admin staff strike in 1977. She was an inspiration then and continued to be. Sincere sympathy to her family and to her former colleagues and comrades in UCG. May she rest in peace.

I have the most lovely memoroes of a summer spent in Whitestrand Park in the late 90's when the sum shone and Mary Cooke made me feel so welcome in Galway. A lady of strength, character and love of life. May she rest in peace.

Mary was a wonderful colleague and friend who, during my time, dedicated herself to the establishment of the Department of Health Promotion at, then, UCG and now University of Galway. She had a long and distinguished career at the university and was the epitome of town and gown, bringing value to and from the community in both directions. She was witty, practical and wise.
