Very saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. I worked with Mary many years ago in Terenure Library. A lovely kind genuine lady, will be fondly remembered. May she rest in peace.

I never had the pleasure of working with Mary but had many dealings with her when she worked in Staff Section. I can remember her voice so well, it was always full of friendliness and reassurance. At one stage we had never met face to face until one Christmas time we were both attending a 'Cheese & Wine' evening in Cumberland House I think. Anyway we only recognised each other by our respective voices and we often laughed about this when we would be speaking on the phone in the years after. Mary was so lovely and so caring and understanding. I will treasure those precious memories of her. Sincere sympathy to her family and friends incl. Doris.

I only heard today of Mary’s passing, I knew she was ill and had kept her in my thoughts and prayers....... Mary was a kind, caring person whom I loved to meet regularly as she was out walking and we would endeavour to “put the world to right” . We will miss Mary here our community and I wish to extend my sincere condolences to all her family, May her gentle soul rest in peace

We met Mary at times of great joy, . . . . weddings, birthdays and christenings. She was always great company, with a glint in her eye and so quick witted!

One time Pat and I bumped into her with all her theatre friends outside the Gaiety. It was evident that they loved all things cultural and that Mary loved being with them.
They were all so happy to be together.

We will miss her at any future gathering of the Lynch/ Dempsey Clan.

My sincere sympathy to Joe Liam and all the extended Dempsey family. I knew Mary when she worked in Coolock Library, and also in Cumberland House. I have great memories of Mary especially in Cumberland House where I worked as aTelephonist in Dublin Public Libraries. Mary and I had many good times together. Mary was a kind and gentle person and loved a chat. Long after she retired I met her at many retirement functions. She will be sadly missed by me. Gone too soon. May she rest in peace.

Sincerest sympathies to you and your family on Mary’s passing. We were long-time colleagues in Dublin City Libraries and co-workers in Cumberland House, then Coolock Library (1997-2004) where we were involved in many great projects, including the building of the Civic Centre, and had such fun along the way. She was a real champion of Dublin’s Northside, regularly standing up for it.
Mary was an old-school librarian in the best sense of the term, with a proper sense of the past, a feel for the present and an eye on the future. She was a caring, sensitive, supportive and incredibly witty boss and mentor. I won’t readily forget her sudden laugh when she made some wicked remark which shocked even her normally circumspect demeanour.
She was a true family friend, having worked with my wife, Maria, in Staff Section in the early 80s. She liked to joke how she knew her before I did. Our children even benefited from her generosity at Christmas when they were younger and they still have fond memories of of visiting Coolock back then.
Very little of this could begin to capture a sense of the wonderful person she was and still is in our memories. When she wasn’t convinced about a particular plan of action she liked to say she wouldn’t “go down that road.” I hope she’s on a more pleasant road now.
