I was privileged to have worked with Mary for many years in Mount St. Michael. She was a loyal, supportive, sincere and caring colleague who was held in high esteem by staff, parents and students alike. She was a wonderful, gifted teacher, who inspired her students to give of their best, and they in turn loved and respected her. The past few years have been very difficult for all of you, but Mary bore her illness with the dignity that was so typical of her. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to all of you at this sad and difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort all of you and may Mary rest in peace.

I was a student of Mary's in the 2000's at Mount St Michaels secondary school. She was one of the best teachers that I ever had in any school. She made all of her students feel equal and cared for. Mary taught me so much about the importance of reading and instilled in me a love for it which I cherish to this day.
I remember her quick wit and sense of humour. One morning (April fools) she was called to the office, and all of the the class turned every desk and chair around and faced the wrong way. She came in and acted as if nothing was wrong and taught the rest of the morning backwards.
My deepest sympathy to all of Mary's family. I truly feel blessed and honoured that Mary Devaney was a part of my life. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
