My sincere sympathy to Mary Ellen's brother Eamon and her niece(s)/nephew(s) on sad occasion of her death. May her soul rest in Eternal Peace. I had only met her recently and was looking fwd to our next meeting. I was related to her on Prunty side.
Mary taught me the violin in Rotterdam between 1993 and 1998 during my teenage years. She was so patient and nice to me (while I was not very talented). With her subtle humor and kindness, she managed to bring me to an acceptable level AND I still liked to practice and play. A wonderful achievement.
I loved being able to cycle from school through busy Rotterdam and have the lesson in their big house at the Walenburgerweg. I know she will be missed by many of the Dutch girls (and some boys) that she taught.

May she rest in peace.
My deepest sympathies to the O'Reilly family on the passing of your beloved Mary Ellen. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

How can I find formal words to write though I have thought of nothing else? I have been having conversations with you, dear Mary, since I got the news. (If we were together we would break into the song and laugh - "I heard the news today, oh boy!") The very first person I met upon arrival at the NEC dorm in 1971, and my travel buddy for the last decade, you have been a part of my life for all my decades (except the first and fourth). At this moment I know your concern and heart is all with dear Michael and so then, is mine. Condolences also to Eammon and Morris, and Deirdre. And to the ladies at Belturbet Heritage Railway, you filled her latest years with your laughter and joy. How proud she was of the project and loved going to cover a shift. May her full life be remembered by all she touched from the NEC family, the Rotterdam symphony and string student family, to her reclaimed roots in Ireland. She relished reconnections with old friends in recent years. She loved and cherished all she came in contact with and grew more gracious with every year of her life. I miss you, Mary O and I know how many others do, too!
I was so deeply saddened to hear about Mary. I knew her from NEC and remembered that special summer tour in Europe, 1974. I always admired her incredible talent. A very sweet and kind woman who occasionally reached out and supported me over the years. That was such an honor and a lovely exchange. My condolences to her family and friends. In spirit and love to all.

Was an incredible and kind person who bring joy and happiness to everyone around . Mary was a great friend, a wonderful family member and an amazing human being. A great soul and may rest in peace.Condolence to all her family.
I first knew Mary when we were both playing free-lance violin in Boston, she, after having attended New England Conservatory as a student, and I as a native, having grown up there. I communicated with her later in life when she was teaching in Rotterdam. I was on a cruise on “The Rotterdam,” and I chatted with her when we docked. Then later I found her again on Facebook, when she was retired and back in Ireland. I told her about a Music Appreciation Course I wrote for Kids. I was wanting to have her help me by using it there. She was very interested and encouraging. We kept in touch by playing one game after another of “Words With Friends.” There’s a chat attached and we played and talked. She was a brilliant player! I am devastated by her loss. I had no idea she was sick. It certainly didn’t show in her game! I offer my condolences to her son and brother, and my praise, in general, for her kindness, and community involvement. She was an incredible human being and I’ll miss playing and chatting with her very much. RIP, Mary.
