We have had that privilege for many years through education and as friends. Mary was a great mentor and inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed.
I met Mary February 2013 as we boarded our plane for the Gambia with 12 other retired teachers for 1 month's voluntary work. What Mary achieved in that short time was astounding. On the 1st day we saw her standing in a big room with books all over the floor that came out in a huge container. On the last day we saw a perfect Library up and running; unbelievable. Our friendship blossomed from there. October '23 she took me to Perugia to celebrate my 80th. She climbed all the steep hills and the many steps into all the Galleries. I feel bereft.
So glad she didn't have a drawn out illness. I thank God for having known her. Hilda Dowley
