Mai Anne’s was a dedicated teacher for many, many years and was held in very high esteem by pupils and parents. She shared her musical talents with the local community and, in recent times with her companions in Acorn Lodge. I’m sure she has already discovered a piano in heaven.

Sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Mai-Ann. Mrs. Downey met us at the gate on our first day in Junior Infants. Whilst excited to start school, I was tearful leaving my mum. She lead me in by the hand, and she gave me a chocolate goldgrain biscuit from a beautiful tin from her cófra. The distraction worked! I never forgot this kindness.Her dedication to playing the organ and her contribution to Liturgy & Education in the parish was immense.

Fond memories of Mai-Ann from her Teaching days to playing the Organ in Clonoulty Church. Glad to have visited Mai-Ann of late in Acorn Nursing Home, so happy and full of life. Enjoyed reading she told me and played the organ whenever Mass was held there, loved the music and hymns all her life. May you now Mai-Ann rest peacefully in God's Heavenly Home

Condolences to all the family on the death of Mrs Downey. As one of the many pupils taught by Mai-Ann over the course of her 45 years in Clonoulty NS, I remember a diligent & dedicated múinteoir who went about her business with a minimum of fuss.

During my time, her desk was always used by the teachers for breaks, and we were delighted when Fr Kennedy called in for tea which invariably meant a good few extra minutes playtime!

To this day, I can still see her playing the organ in the church, something I know she did for many decades.

May she rest in peace.
