My heartfelt sympathy on the sad news of Mary’s passing. I only learned about it yesterday thanks to a friend in Dublin. I knew Mary for many years from literary groups I hosted in Dublin. And her support for these events was excellent. Mary was an outstanding writer whose work always was of a very high standard. She had her own individual style which I greatly admire.
Mary was an excellent humane lady. Farewell Mary. My sympathy to all who mourn her. And my condolences to her literary friends who will miss her. It was an honour to have known Mary Guckian. A bright spirit.

So sorry to hear of Mary’s recent passing. She was so kind and encouraging to me and to all and will be greatly missed especially by the members of Rathmines Writers where I had the privilege to get to know her. Mary and I met at an Anco course about 15 years ago & were close friends ever since.
I was with her when she met Victor.
She is one of the loveliest people you could ever know. I miss her.

My sincere condolences to Mary's partner and the McGuckian family. I have know Mary since she first moved to Ringsend. A wonderful soul and most recently the Ringsend and District Historical Society greatly appreciated her contribution to the Ringsend Bloomsday Festival. May her beautiful words now echo in another world beyond us.

What a loss Mary is. She was the salt of the earth in all senses. She left a fine record of growing up in rural Leitrim, blending the fragrance of the countryside with the memory of good honest toil. She approached her poetry with the same reverence that she quoted her father for in 'Perfume of the Soil' – “If a job is worth doing it is worth doing well”.

I am truly sorry to hear that Mary has passed away. RIP. Sincere condolences to Victor and all the Guckian family in Kiltoghert. Mary was a terrific help to me many years ago when researching my Kiltoghert Guckians for my family tree. They lived up the road from her Guckian family. We are distant cousins but we could not prove the connection!! Mary was a great poetess, I have a lot of her books of lovely poetry about Lovely Leitrim. Love her poems. Photography was another great talent of hers. She was a wonderful, creative, gentle person who loved her home place. May she rest in peace now that her pain is over. Thank you Mary for being such a kind, generous distant cousin. Sleep well.
