I am so sad to learn of Mary’s passing . My sympathies to Mary’s family and friends . I knew Mary from her Victoria St days . She was quite simply a treasure and a joy .

So shocked, Patrick and Mattie to hear the news of Mary’s sudden death. Eoin, Thérèse and myself have been reminiscing about our lovely ‘across the road’ neighbours and friends, the McCabes since we heard the news. Indeed my husband Michael and our late sister Mary’s husband Tony, have been joining in, as they have heard so much about some of the escapades of the McCabe / Hester, then children, that they feel they were present then in Dublin 8 ! Even as a child your sister Mary was hardworking pleasant and helpful and these traits clearly brought her success in later life. Thinking of you all at this very sad time. I was shocked to hear of dear Mary’s sudden and untimely death. I have known her since our time in the Employment Exchanges and later in the Regional Director’s Office where we worked together very closely.
She was a beautiful person, a wonderful colleague and friend and a very talented artist. I will miss our many visits to the National Gallery. It was a privilege to have known her.

I've been doing the echo on Mary's house for the last 2 years and to say she was one of a kind, always had a smile on her face. She used to always ask me what the headlines were on the echo when I delivered the paper to see if I'd remember it knowing I wouldn't know so we could have a laugh, she will be missed terribly.
