Mary was a truly extraordinary person. She dedicated her life to helping others, whether in her work in Ekhart House or in her political work. In politics, she only worked for candidates in whom she believed, and then she was tireless in her dedication. No one worked harder than Mary in Fianna Fail, across Dublin South Central and Dublin Bay South, including the candidates. She had an extraordinary memory and mental discipline. If she had been born later, she would have had greater personal opportunities and would undoubtedly have risen to the top in politics or business. But Mary was content to labour away, avoiding the limelight. Her energy and dedication and organisational skills changed the results of several elections. But I will miss a friend of forty years who was my father's fiercest and most loyal supporter.

Sincere sympathy to Joan, Michael, Dominic, Ann and the extended Mc Kenna family on Mary’s death. She was a great friend and neighbour. May she rest gently with the Lord.

I extend my sincere condolences to the family of Mary on her recent passing.I will always remenber the intense political conversations we had in the cafe in Terenure when I got to know Mary in recent years.

I was so sad to hear that Mary had died.We had a chat a few weeks ago and she was as spirited as ever.She was a real character.I have no Fianna Fail connections but she once persuaded me to pay 50 euros for a fundraising ticket! I had to admire her sales skills! May Mary rest in peace.

My sincere sympathies to Anne, Joan, Michael, Dominic and all the extended McKenna family on the sad passing of Mary.

I have fond memories of my teenage years spent in the guest house business in Castle, a time when B&Bs were at the heart of family holidays in West Kerry.

Mary was a central figure in that world — running her own guest house with dedication and playing an active role in local tourism organisations.
Back then, guest house owners shared more than just stories. There were daily chats about guests, bookings, local sights, and entertainment that might interest visitors.
Behind the scenes, there were lively discussions about menus and local produce, and catering equipment was often borrowed and shared.

There was always laughter — especially over whose service ran the smoothest — and in times of need, support was never far away.
They were special times — full of community, cooperation, and kindness.

Mary, may you rest in peace.

For over four decades Mary was the public face of Fianna Fáil across much of Dublin South Central and the old Rathmines Ward.

She was well known as one of the late Ald Michael Donnelly’s key campaigners, but she was also a vital part of the Ben Briscoe campaigns in 1992 and 1997.

Mary never held back. You always knew where you stood with Mary… and that meant when she was on your side, she gave it 110%.

No one got to more doors than Mary… not in any party… then… or I will bet, since.

We will not see her likes again.

We were so sad to hear of Mary’s death and extend deepest sympathy to Joan, the McKenna family and her friend Kate .Mary was employed in Eckhart House for almost 20 years until the centre closed in yr.2008. She provided care ,support and friendship to others working there and a genuine welcome and hospitality to all who attended the centre. Her commitment to her work, her loyalty and confidentiality were appreciated by all. May her soul rest in peace.
