My deepest sympathy to all the Murchan family on the death of Mary. I am a past pupil of Ms Murchan and one of the class of 1977. She was an exceptional teacher and person. She inspired us to be the best we could and gave freely of her time to her pupils and for that I am always grateful. She taught with passion and wit and I have so many good memories of those times.

Ms Murchan, a true legend, commanding our attention and respect without ever raising her voice. Thank you for teaching us so much more than history.

I was a pupil of Loreto from 84-90 and Mary Murchan taught me history for all of those years. She was also a mentor and the most patient understanding support during some difficult years. She was ahead of her time in standing up to bullies (amongst the teaching staff too) and I will never forget how much time she dedicated to listening to us and properly understanding us. Ive often thought of her over the years. She was a beautiful person. RIP Mary x

Sending my sincere condolences to the whole Murchan Family. I was a pupil in loreto College Crumlin '84-'90. Ms. Murchan was the deputy principal while I was there. Although I never had her as a teacher, she had a huge impact on me. She was always so encouraging, kind and gentle. I bumped into her regularly after I finished school and we would stop to talk and catch up on things. I will always remember her fondly. RIP MS MURCHAN, you certainly have earned your bed in heaven, rest in eternal peace. Bless you. X

I have warm memories of working in Loreto College as a young teacher in the 1980’s. Mary was the deputy principal who was a wonderful role model- kind, caring, hard-working, compassionate and fun loving. She loved her job, her students and her colleagues and we heard lots of stories of her family who were so important and loved by her. She will remain in the hearts of many. I was a student of Miss Murchan in the 1960s in Loreto where she was one of my favourite teachers. I remember her kindness and yet she was firm and always fair. Some days she picked me up at the bus stop and chatted to me like an adult in her mini. I also loved her sharp wit and her high heels. May she rest in peace
